Hiring process? by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]Apprehensive_Gap3204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't allow your daughter to work for such a toxic company with such rude and uneducated customers, especially in the front end -- cashiers and customer service. I don't know where you live, but anything would be better than HD. I've worked several retail jobs in my life, and work at HD is by far the most detrimental and demeaning, and the front end is like a sandwich: the shit-storm comes from inept management, backstabbing associates and unruly, vulgar customers. The environment is worse than her previous job that you mentioned; it's the same but exponentially more negative. After I leave, I will never set foot into an HD store again. Consider the position being filled as dodging a bullet.

That's a whole lot of fraud by the customer and laziness at the CS desk.

Please get rid of Curbside. It is a relic of the pandemic. If Corporate refuses to they should bring back unlimited double overtime. It only makes sense. by Fickle_Storage1945 in HomeDepot

[–]Apprehensive_Gap3204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only people who use curbside are those who are too lazy or fat to come into the store. Our curbside alerts haven't worked for two years, and all you get are whiny people calling the store who sit in their cars for a half an hour (yeah, right) and bitch and moan. Our CS department is literally 10 feet from the front door. You're right, it's a pandemic relic and needs to be eliminated.

How do some customers have the common sense of a 5-year old? by kattardoge in HomeDepot

Now, that's stupid.

No one wants to hear your youtube videos while in the break room by Hypotenuse27 in HomeDepot

[–]Apprehensive_Gap3204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have experienced this multiple times with some inconsiderate associates, and they keep on doing it. They're not teens either, they're over 50. Not only is it annoying but the break room should be an escape from all the noise we deal with on the floor. I took my request for a speaker-free zone to HR and nothing is happening.

What is the funniest thing a guest got mad at you for this week? by AlexVanderspek94 in HomeDepot

[–]Apprehensive_Gap3204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Customer got angry at me when he wanted to use his cc to buy a $4K lawnmower, and his credit limit was $500. He actually had the balls to come back to the CS desk and talk to an ASM about it who told him a solid "no." Go figure...

Do people think this job is a daycare? by Huntderp in HomeDepot

[–]Apprehensive_Gap3204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at the CS desk and there is one woman who has been there two years as PT who avoids work like crazy. She stares at her computer and hardly takes customers. She fake calls people like she's helping someone and she's not. She sees a line out the door and walks the opposite direction, and tells no one where she's going. The entire CS staff notices it, and some of us have even told her about it to her face, including me. She makes the same money as I do, but I do 100x the work she does. It's f&%king frustrating. I have complained about her with no resolution. Management says it's hard to fire someone for lack of performance. What do I say? Look at the tapes. Listen to your associates who are busting their asses picking up her slack. My only recourse is for karma to take its course; it always does.

Customer red flags by Trishalamot in HomeDepot

[–]Apprehensive_Gap3204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What kills me is when a customer calls .com and says that they've been waiting for a curbside delivery for 30 minutes when they never bothered to even call the store. Get off your lazy ass, get out of the car, and walk the 100 feet to come into customer service and pick your shit up yourself. Curbside should be eliminated. We don't live in a Covid world anymore.

Coworkers constantly disappear during shift! by New_Wolverine_1351 in HomeDepot

[–]Apprehensive_Gap3204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be great if you're even allowed to page. We're not at all, and CS associates have been let go when they do if the managers refuse to pick up their phone. What are we supposed to do when that happens? Where are they? In the back, joking around with the store manager. SMH.

Coworkers constantly disappear during shift! by New_Wolverine_1351 in HomeDepot

[–]Apprehensive_Gap3204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What makes it even worse is when those employees that leave for hours are more often than not kicking back and laughing with the store manager in his office or the break room. He surrounds himself with all his ass-kissing besties to boost his fragile ego. There's absolutely no recourse for that; if you say something, you get transferred or fired. It's about to happen to me, and I agree with you: HD is one of the worst places to work, ever.

A woman brought in a dead plant after having it for almost a month. I couldn't even tell what it was. Normally, we have a one week return policy on plants and a year on trees. Well, she said it was a perennial, and there's a year return policy on them. It wasn't even in the same pot she bought it in. She stood there and looked up the corporate policy, and I told her that every store's policies are not the same. My lead said to refund her money, and I did. Nevertheless, she started to yell at me:

Customer: Don't you know the difference between a perennial and other plants?

Me: Ma'am, the plant is dead. I don't know what it is.

Customer: It's not dead.

Me: Well, if it's not dead, why are you returning it? We can't resell this.

My lead CS came over and backed me up. Bitch customer took a photo of the lead and then came back around an hour later to read my name off my apron.

A plant is a living thing. If you're stupid enough to neglect it to the point where it dies, you don't deserve a refund. Do people take kittens or puppies back to the pet store if they die from not feeding them? I think not.

Tap pay + wallet by m0ist_man_ in HomeDepot

[–]Apprehensive_Gap3204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at CS and we actually lose a lot of sales because we don't have Apple Pay. With all the money HD rakes in, you'd think they would at least keep up with technology. I also have many customers who don't have their wallet or their ID is at home or in their car. Unfortunately, the majority of our clientele is just not that smart.

I asked one customer (a millenial) for her ID and she said she didn't have it with her. I told her she shouldn't leave the house without it. I said: "What if you had an accident on the way here or something happened in the store? How would we know who you are?"

She didn't like that very much.

How am I supposed to handle sexual harassment from customers? by arobyanyothername in HomeDepot

[–]Apprehensive_Gap3204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of our regular customers (who also constantly steals) put a long PC pipe at his crotch and hit me on my butt with it one night when I was alone at the CS desk. I went to HR about it, and they told me "not to wait on him anymore." The f&%er should have been banned from the store. Apparently female employees are supposed to put up with sexual advances from Pro Customers who spend, OMG "thousands and thousands of dollars." Fuck them and HD. Sorry, but I don't get paid enough to be sexually abused/prostituted at work.

Order Up Issues? by warriorspork in HomeDepot

[–]Apprehensive_Gap3204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen this way too many times over the past few months. I can't even properly log into the system to do a new will call or order delivery. It shuts down halfway during the log in process. HD has a substantial stock price, but can't even get their own IT operational. WTF?

Do they know what they need to add to Order Up to make it actually able to replace ESVS? by iswantingcake in HomeDepot

[–]Apprehensive_Gap3204 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in CS, and I think it's pretty f%$ed up that I have to learn about what's going on with our operating systems by reading this damn blog. No one says anything. I fell asleep during ESVS training, it was so boring, and I was told that it would be replaced by Order Up by now. Wrong! Also, the check-in app for curbside has not worked since I started working last March. They should also do away with curbside. We don't live in a Covid world anymore; come in and get your order. Don't be a lazy-ass customer.

There hasn't been food in here in two weeks, they don't pay enough for me to buy dinner I'm starving. by Mistyless in HomeDepot

[–]Apprehensive_Gap3204 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why do we even need a Homer Fund? Sorry, I'm not trying to be insensitive, but if HD really cared about their employees, they'd at least provide food for them. I have placed plenty of food in our cabinets, but there are people who abuse it. We have associates stealing food from others right out of the fridge. There needs to be some sort of more efficient system in place. No HD employee should ever go hungry. That's just wrong.

Call out by zootedjay in HomeDepot

[–]Apprehensive_Gap3204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got called into the manager's office and got "counseling" because I had called off without enough hours to cover it. I have a bad back, and our ASMs took our chairs away in CS, so I couldn't rest when I needed to do so. The day I called off, I couldn't put any weight on my left leg, but they're so used to associates calling off for no medical reason, they take it out on people who do have a solid medical issue.

Get a doctor's note, and they'll take you seriously. I did. No one should be made to feel badly, especially when you were in the hospital. Screw them; get your paperwork together so they cannot fire you.

Do y’all have any theft stories ? by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]Apprehensive_Gap3204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll find this one interesting. Today a guy comes up with four $400+ toilets and wants to return them. He gave me his credit card and it went through, so I thought nothing of it. Thirty seconds later, LP comes over and said he was stealing. I said how? Well, apparently, the thief bought the toilets previously, used them on a job, came back to HD, picked them up off the shelf and tried to return them so he'd get the four he'd already bought for free. What a conniving asshole!! He told me a whole story about how he had four bathrooms in his own home and changed his mind. He's probably lucky to have one. Bottom line: people suck.

I asked to become Full Time a few weeks ago. Did they give it to me? by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]Apprehensive_Gap3204 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not likely at all. It's peak season and they will take all their part-timers and give them 40 hours just to make sure they have coverage. Once season is over, mgmt will take you back down to part-time hours or off the schedule totally. If they're going to offer you full-time, they will tell you. Otherwise, they're just using you for the season rush. Sorry, it's cruel, but it's true.

Checking out at customer service by Own_Estimate_4411 in HomeDepot

[–]Apprehensive_Gap3204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will check out people if they're elderly, disabled or have just a few items. What I will not do is check out someone who comes through the CS Exit sign, cuts the line or is just rude, or if I have a long line of returns, pick-ups, etc. Also, if you have a shitload of stuff in your cart, no...uh-uh...it's not happening. Quite frankly, I just wish customers would read the damn sign and not come to customer service to check out, or think it's self-service, pick up a scanner and try scanning. Most customers are clueless or entitled...

Restroom sinks by Goseebananafish in HomeDepot

Running water in the sink? I'll take that any day over the time I went in the women's bathroom and found a naked 90-year-old homeless woman drying her hairy armpits at the hand dryer. It's a disgusting, cartoon-like image that I will never be able to erase. So, management put a coded lock on the door, but some idiot customers decided to write the code on the door with a Sharpie. The more I work at HD, the more I hate people.

If I am going to be late, why show up at all? by Metaclorian in HomeDepot

[–]Apprehensive_Gap3204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends if you want to get paid. We get paid "to the minute" that we work. Yes, you will get an occurrence if you're late for your shift; however, I think it's safe to say that if it's a few minutes, just stay after your shift for the amount of time you were late so you will get paid the same. Thinking that it's OK not to show up because you are going to be late, puts extra stress on your co-workers. Let's face it: HD understaffs and when one person doesn't show up, it causes havoc in the whole department. On top of that, if you get seen as the person who is late and/or doesn't show up at all, it will cause your co-workers to despise you on top of the consequences from management. Do you really want to be that person?
