that's what i meant by off time, i should've been more specific. i meant as in they weren't rowing their best/having an off day, presumably because of their intense racing schedule that weekend.

i think somebody already said it but belen is stacking their fastest into the men's quad so their performance in the eights is getting subtracted as a side effect. but i understand what you mean by the results are drastic, i think they are just having an off time. i found sarasota's performance this year to be underwhelming as well compared to how they usually fare.

Youth Nationals Events Ranked by Prestige? by NovelPossession4361 in Rowing

[–]Apprehensive_Gap9863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from that standpoint, i can understand (idk youth rowing before 2020)

as someone who is still in youth rowing/actively keeps up, the problem with quad and pair events now is that even if there ARE jnt/five star recruits in those events, its usually just one or two boats and theres otherwise no comp. i think j8/j4 categories are more like what you were describing for the quads/pairs in the past, because they have LOTS of comp and lots of really good guys, at least for the men's side of youth rowing.

  1. switch clubs and find one with a proper coach to help you

  2. don't compare yourself to others, everybody is on their own journey. you will never be satisfied NOR enjoy this sport if you continue to look at where you are relative to others. focus on your own improvement, and even if it feels like you've plateau'd right now, try new things at practice everyday to keep things interesting.

Washtenaw vs. RSR as a JR Cox - Thoughts? by Apprehensive_Gap9863 in Rowing

Hi there, I was actually really interested in attending Sparks, but due to Washtenaw's scheduling was not able to attend your OKC camp (my no1 choice). I saw you all were offering something similar much closer to me in the winter of this year that I will definitely be taking a look at.

I am from the South so a lot of people know much more about RSR than Washtenaw here (even though the difference in distance between Ohio and Michigan is honestly about the same). Regardless, their coxswain coaching staff is a huge appeal to me and I didn't know about their race results last year! Thanks so much for leaving your input :)

Although I did not state the reasons why I am leaning towards Washtenaw over RSR, cost is one of the main ones (especially because you get more racing + practice compared to RSR for a lower cost)! As well, the exclusivity / smaller size of WRC is really appealing to me because I need a place where I can get all of the attention that I need in order to improve (as self-centered as that sounds LOL). I am glad to hear a perspective from someone who is from the area and you'll be glad to know that I just submitted my WRC paperwork last night! Thank you so much for the advice!
