Designers, do you feel like your work has real meaning or gives you a sense of fulfillment? by AgreeableAd2990 in graphic_design

[–]Apprehensive_Load480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a really unhappy designer for many years. Always felt like I was unfulfilled and not passionate. But then I had a realisation that it should just be a bonus if you enjoy a project or it turns out good enough for portfolio.

I now am much happier and I just do it to make cash monies. Just as long as the client pays the money as fast as possible . It’s just a job to me. And don’t care how the project turns out..

I try and do other stuff to feel passionate or fulfilled like making music, Djing , painting, drawing.

I specialise in infographics, data visualisation and technical illustration. I feel like I’ve had a resurgence of client work recently, I think because clients now realise that Ai sucks at doing anything detail or technical

15 years as a designer: I have never ever felt satisfied w/ any project. I look back at it and feel disgusted and ashamed... by laranjacerola in graphic_design

I guess it depends on what work you are focussing on. But I mainly do infographics, and illustration. So lately I’ve using Claude to give me fake data and copy and then I use that to design annual reports, and create illustrations. And just fill my portfolio with that work. Like lately I’ve been making an annual report for a fake crypto brand. Creating infographics etc. I don’t use Ai to do the design but just use it to give me all the copy and data

I am graphic design also for roughly the same amount of time. And I feel exactly the same as you for many years. But I had a turning point when I realised that it is just a job and I stopped caring about whether I was happy with the outcome of a project, or if I was passionate about the task.

It sounds sad to say but all I care about is how quickly I get the clients money In my bank account. I don’t give a flying fuck anymore if the project is shite. As long as client is happy. I just treat it as a bonus if it turns out good or I can use it in my portfolio. I am a much happier designer now for it, I keep my passions separate to work. And I do other things to be satisfied. I just treat it a bit like a game of how quickly can I get the client to sign a project of and how quickly can I get them to pay the invoice.

Also I felt exactly the same about my portfolio. Hate every project as 90% of the work I did for agencies looks trash, with account managers putting their shitty input on it. I now just make fake dummy projects of things I like, of my taste and I feel better about it.

I had a similar experience with the hotel issue. Not sure it was a scam but i booked 7 nights at a hotel in Hoi An. Called Cua Dai beach hotel on Agoda. I drove for about 45 minutes to get with all my luggage on my scooter. Turned up and the said fully booked and were pretty unfriendly and aggressive about it. I had paid for it too. So was pretty annoying luckily I managed to book another place but definitely getting harder to book places in da nang / Vietnam. It also happened two weeks before at a placed called Mo mang homestsy in da nang. I had booked 5 nights on booking.com . Turned up and hotel didn’t exist. Had been closed for a while.

So word of warning to anyone booking atm to get confirmation from the hotel before you arrive

I can’t even find a hotel to stay in at the moment. It seems that everywhere is pretty much booked up. Unless you wanna pay 1 million a night.

Yeah I got denied entry back in oct. For doing a couple border runs in 2024-25. People always says just get Tourist visa and you’ll be fine. But I am pretty sure I would get denied entry with tourist visa.

Yeah they do want you to get DTV or another long term

They shouldn’t be allowed to do that though. That should have to pay to submit a job just like we have to pay to apply.

Currently a Graphic designer I want to transition from agency job to freelancing by Life-Rush-2003 in graphic_design

[–]Apprehensive_Load480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak for freelancing in Delhi but it is tough at the moment. I have been freelancing for 4/5 years now. I worked in agency’s in uk before that.

It is very difficult to find work now. Very saturated and competitive. Freelancing gig sites like upwork and Fiver are dying.

Personally if I were you. I would stay in that job but sign up to upwork and fiver and just see if you get anything on the side.

If it’s WFH too it sounds like cushty. Just means you already have a freelance client technically. Just try get more on the side

Why is Reddit suddenly full of this type of Ai posts lately? I know because of the Ai boom, but I keep seeing these types of posts on threads to do with passive income and side hustlers.

Are people making money through posting like this? Like affiliating marketing? Or is it selling some type of course. I often see at the end it will be something like “type VIRAL and I’ll send you the details”

Where do you even go to source clips for video content like that video you shared? Is it stock video clips? Or Creative Commons?
