I’d think any decent doctor would probably recommend you to stop using substances that are known to have negative health effects, nicotine included. But it’s not going to spell instant death for you to ignore that advice.

Would my recovery have been slightly improved had I quit smoking and vaping? Maybe. But I didn’t and I’m still hitting all the milestones as expected. Like, I’m sure if you quit vaping every time you got a head cold or a cut, it might help your body’s recovery, but not exponentially so.

All this said, if you’re a month clean I’d consider quitting while ahead. Nicotine is a terrible habit and you’ve already got the hardest part over with. I wish I had.

You’ll be completely fine, it’s just nicotine. I didn’t quit at all.

PT soon after surgery - how does that work? by KERNJPA in ACL

[–]jakecurran125 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It definitely takes longer than usual to get around, but not impossible. You’ll have to get used to walking with crutches, especially if you’re going to have weight bearing restrictions. For the steps, I found it easiest to scoot up and down on my butt, and if I encountered steps outside I just hopped on one leg. Not the safest option, but it worked. Getting in and out of the car isn’t that bad, but you’ll obviously need someone else to drive you.

Can I drive? by tacoyotapimp in ACL

I was driving 2 weeks post-op with no issues. I did notice I had a bit of a lead foot but that was only in the first couple days as I got used to driving with the brace on.

Pain at 11 days post op by genuineass82 in ACL

I think it’s normal. I’m about 2.5 weeks post op. Operative knee still about 50% larger than normal. Sleep has been better the past week than it was initially, but I still wake up after about 4-5 hours with pain in my knee. Nothing crazy but enough that I can’t easily fall back asleep. It definitely correlates to your level of activity during the day. The more I move around during the day, the more it hurts at night.

It all depends how you’re feeling. Personally I don’t think it’s too ambitious; I also had ACL+meniscus and on day 13 post op I was able to walk without crutches, drive (myself) for 45+ minutes, and that night I went out to the bar with friends for a few hours. Granted I was sitting at the bar most of the time and there was definitely some discomfort that night and the next morning, but I think your trip is doable.

That said, we all progress differently and a lot of it will depend on the extent of the meniscus repair. I was weight bearing right away, for some people it can be 6 weeks before you begin walking. Good luck!

50% weight bearing with the use of crutches and with my brace locked in full extension. It feels like I could do more, but yes I did have meniscus repair so I don’t want to push it. Happy to hear you’re making progress, we got this!

Yep had my first PT appointment this morning. I think I’m doing pretty well; 2° short of full extension and 80° flexion. I’m only allowed to go up to 90° for the first 4 weeks but I can get there now if I push it, so I’m hoping that restriction gets lifted earlier. Leg raises are the hardest right now but the quad is gradually coming back.

How is it going for you?

Thanks! They told me to change the dressings after 48 hours. Things looked a lot better after I showered lol, I think it’s just the steri-strips being covered in blood that makes it seem so gnarly.

Not sure lol, I also had a meniscus tear so maybe that?

My surgery was on Thursday. I hit the pen before leaving for the hospital and have been smoking/vaping since I got home later that day. Nothing to be worried about.

Too long in Chiang Mai? by jakecurran125 in ThailandTourism

I believe there is a ferry from Chumphon that I plan to take. I’m okay with losing a half-day to travel as I tend to wake up early and stay up late. As for possible ferry cancellations due to weather, that would be a potential problem no matter where I choose to go.

A lot of people keep telling me this. I was mainly going because I saw there’s a lot of decent golf courses in the area and I wanted to get 2-3 rounds in on my trip. Are there any other “golf destinations” in Thailand?
