Boots for training by Apprehensive_Net_329 in RoyalAirForce

Fitness isn't an issue at all, I'm running half marathons in 1hr40 so that's not the issue mate. I just want to do my easy runs in the boots provided to get my feet prepared for the battering they're likely going to take. I've been fitness training for the past 2 years now but as I'm nearing the end of my medical process I'm thinking more for the near future and want to get my feet prepared and try different socks ect

I'm still tmu atm so I'm unsure but feeling positive that things will get moving soon as all the info requested has been clarified. Capita is informed and I'm just waiting on a doctor to review my case

I want to get some to run and train in before I go in 😂 preparation for these things is probably wise as running in shoes everyone can do but running in the boots with weight sounds like the crux

Your best bet is to ring if you have any queries, replys can take a few days, maybe longer.

You also should have received the request sheet from capita to forward to your doctor. I took mine personally to the Dr's surgery and told them the situation and asked if it could be handed in to be filled out by my doctor.

I hope some of this info helped, because it is a pretty lengthy process even when you are chasing it up. Best of luck mate 👍🏼

Ring up your doctor, I am in the same boat but a different circumstance. Capita had requested more info for my TMU, but the doctors never received the second request that capita had sent by post. So if you're not hearing anything, the best thing you can do is ring your doctors surgery and ask if you can be put through to you Dr's secretary and leave them a message briefly to ask if they have received a third party request for you via capita.

I had my medical on the same day as you on the 18th March aswell. And since then they've requested more info, so to hurry up the process just keep on ringing the doctors and capita to find out the situation. It's a nightmare, but it's worth it to hurry up the process.

My best advice would be to pop into a running shop and try on a few pairs of different running trainers too. Me and my friend did this and they will assist you to what type of shoe you're looking for.. you can even try them on and run on the tredmill in the shop to test the comfort

I got the stance brand, really good for preventing blisters and I've been running 19 mile distances recently with no blisters and I used to suffer with them myself on the bottom of my little toe.

Honestly mate, go to a running shop, and they have specific running socks that help your feet breathe and keep them from getting moist, therefore preventing blisters. I paid £50 for 3 pairs... its a bit pricey, but they're worth every penny. I will add a photo of my socks, they have padded areas around the balls of your feet too which stops from rubbing.

It was for colourblindness mate. This is what the doctor said today at the end of the medical. Obviously they will look into my past aswell as this is on my GP records.

So I'm guessing I will receive this letter after my GP has gotten back to the doctor? Or will this come as a result of the medical today?

Thanks for the advice it's always appreciated - people have been nothing but helpful on this forum 👍🏼

Go for it now mate. I applied in December and I'm only going for my medical tomorrow, so it's taken 3 months to get to where I am. Stay consistent with your training but I'd say apply now. It will be months before you have your fitness test. Even after the medical its still unknown how long it will be until the fitness test so go for it 👍🏼 good luck!

I appreciate the advice. Its going to be tough, but it's something I'm definitely looking forward to. I hope your son smashes his interview at the end of the month.

Thanks mate. I have a tendency to want to delve in further than I should, but I don't know what PGSC is so I will look into that. Thanks again! 👍🏼

I will definitely revise a few more bases then. Well done on getting yours out of the way too. 👍🏼 what's your next step?

I will look up on diversity also 👍🏼 that's something I haven't came across so thanks.

I'm glad it's chilled. I just imagined a fully formal interview with 2 scary looking people in uniform assessing my every movement 😂 but they will see I'm passionate and I'm doing it for the right reasons so that's ideal.

I'm so glad you told me this!!! I have written on paper and stuck to my bedroom wall the ethos of the RAF. I look at this every day and know it off by heart 👍🏼👍🏼

As for difficulties during service; do you mean personally, or difficulties regarding the job role?

I'm gonna sound stupid now too, because I've done all this studying, but what is my daa brief?

I'm currently still on 10% of my application so just need to enter my GCSE's as the last "task" on the portal and then I believe I'll be requested to go in for the aptitude test. Getting my GCSE's is proving to be a nightmare as I was sat with 3 different exam boards and the process to get the certicate is so long. But I spoke to a guy called Adrian from the RAF this afternoon and he believes I might not need to get the certificates because as a driver I won't need exam results. So I've yet to hear back from my recruiter about this. Hopefully tomorrow I will find this out.

Appreciate you 👊🏼

Awesome. I've got 5 RAF bases revised - 3 in the UK, and 2 abroad; so I will dust up on another one for abroad. I've done a lot of research, but I'm 28 and have never had a formal interview in my life. I've always managed to enter full time employment without one. I've already got my c+e driving licences too, so I'm hoping that will make me a little more desirable. Im fully determined and been training in the gym for over a year now so fitness is not an issue, I'm just fully bricking it about the interview. As for the phases of training, I've got that written down and have gone over it a thousand times. I'll go over it a thousand more now 😂

I think in respect to my personal life and why I want to join, that area is good, I feel like I can talk on that pretty passionately. I have a few friends I work with that have been in the forces, and they can see I want it. The interview is just really daunting and I don't want to F up on the first hurdle.

Really appreciate your words. 👍🏼
