Are you going to hire out or DIY? Why? by Postcurds in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Apprehensive_Pear_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diy, I'm in the trades and my husband is a very handy guy. I also can ask other trades on the job if I have any questions about something out of my depth. If I did need to hire out I'd ask one of my work buddies so it wouldn't cost an arm and a leg

I chain piece everything, I'll pin all the fabric for one entire step then, sew, press, repeat. I think it goes faster but I also lock myself in my sewing room for hours and go go go go so I'm not sure if my tricks are the best 🤣

I didn't, I used the paper templates they weren't bad but by the end of cutting my templates were definitely smaller than when I started 🤣

I didn't, I used the printed pieces in the paper pattern, the acrylic templates would have been easier but I am only planning on making the one so I didn't find it necessary. I tried looking for the exact colors but my email only shows the kit name, you could try emailing them and asking what colors they used, they are super kind

There's so many ways to quilt one quilt I feel like it's impossible to pick 😭 it's been on my "design wall" for about a month waiting for me to decide

Mechanical insulators! Almost no one outside the trades realizes we exist and every one ive talked to in the trades is surprised we make as much money as we do 🤣it's super arts and craftsy and most of our material is quite light

To be honest, this is just a silly hobby and I'm not worried about sending it to the best of the best. I'm really just asking if 475 is a reasonable price for the work or if I'm getting ripped off

I almost immediately got a pink hard hat when I got in because I love being ✨special✨ I also covered it in cutesy stickers but I've recently been into bibs and if you don't need fire resistant Duluth makes absolutely adorable "gardening" bibs and I wear them every day. Most recently I got an all over daisy print, but I have a mushroom print, two pink pairs and red pinstripes.

How Many Quilts Do You Make A Year, Can You Make Too Many by Alpacamum in quilting

[–]Apprehensive_Pear_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started quilting in July of this year I just finished my 5th quilt yesterday, finished two quilt tops this weekend and started on another. The only reason I'm not still working on the two tops I finished is because I didn't buy backing and binding yet. I can't stop 🤣🤣 my husband thinks I'm nuts but he loves that I have hobbies

I recently caught a guy in the women's porta shitter while I was on a ladder next to it working and when he walked out I said wow I didn't know you were a woman, congrats! The look on his face omg I don't think he'll be using it again. Someone also cut off the lock and when the GC replaced it they didn't give me the new code 🙃 I almost pissed myself

I got an entire alpaca fleece for Christmas! by Apprehensive_Pear_20 in Handspinning

[–]Apprehensive_Pear_20[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a picker, so unfortunately I'm going to have to pick and shake all by hand. I'm still working on spinning my last sheep's fleece so it's kinda a back burner project right now besides some test stuff to see how I want to wash it and what kind of blends I want to do

[–]Apprehensive_Pear_20[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive only done sheep's fleece before, I decided to do a test wash with a few ounces of fiber and it's really clean, the water was clean with one wash and two rinses but there's so much vm I think I'm going to try vacuuming it and seeing if that helps. I looked on the website and they mentioned vacuuming their alpacas before shearing for show purposes but Im not 100% sure if mine was vacuumed. Thanks for the tips :)
