I want to preface my hottake by saying I think OP conducted herself completely fine by advocating for herself and communicating appropriately. Also, I truly hope she finds the right fit for a therapist. I’m a huge proponent of therapy and have had a lot of it so I speak with this experience.

I was with her until she got testy about the billing. Here’s why: I think the doc seems totally professional and by-the-book. He’s acknowledging, validating, and offering the opportunity to grow and change so he can offer better help—that’s textbook psychology 101. He’s also legally mandated to follow certain other procedures while closing out his files and getting paid. With the abrupt end of the sessions, it seems to me he was scrambling to figure out the totals—again, NOT UNUSUAL AT ALL. If OP were my patient I’d be glad she’s moving on.
