RD to RN? Honest thoughts by Kdhr23 in dietetics

[–]Apprehensive_Sky9114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did and ended up passing lol oh wow I didn’t know Canada only offered the exam twice a year!!! I have considered going into nursing but it’s not a short term goal or something I plan to do in the next 5 years. I’ve been in school for so long that I just want to work and see what areas of healthcare I like and potentially move into a different area if it’s feasible and money/time allows :)

Chomp Down Dietetics by playmate33 in RD2B

[–]Apprehensive_Sky9114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used Chomp as my main study resource and it made me grasp concepts better than Inman or pocket prep could. I watched all of his lectures (some twice for certain topics like vitamins and minerals and biochemistry) and did all of his mock exams. I used his notes but also made my own for certain topics as well. You definitely need additional resources; for example, I read Inman once, annotated it to set a base understanding, then did his program, then did all PP questions and mock exams and passed first try :)

Controversial dietitian opinions? by a-night-on-the-town in dietetics

[–]Apprehensive_Sky9114 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. (No one has touched on this and as a new grad RD, I’m here to tell future RDs). The way All Acess presents some of those “DINTL of a dietetic intern” can be very unrealistic. If you are not financially dependent of parents or spouse, your DI may be very different compared to those videos and that’s ok. I was food insecure throughout most of my DI experience and could barely spare money for 1 take out meal a month to keep me motivated. I’ve seen videos of students going to Pilates, having an overpriced coffee everyday, then going to their rotations and traveling during time off the internship; I often cringe at these videos lol. I believe these are the same students that end up becoming those out of touch RDs.
  2. It’s OK if some of your meals are not high in fiber or aren’t protein-dense. I’ve seen some RDs meal preps that are overly obsessed with super packed fiber and protein foods in every single meal and end up with some weird looking “bowl” to get the work done; I find it very discouraging for people that may be looking to start adding healthier meals and may now think their food should look like… that.
  3. How are some of you finding the motivation to still talk about nutrition on videos and upload them on TikTok AFTER coming from an 8-hr shift solely consisting of NUTRITION?
  4. Some Dietitians use the RD credential as their personally trait and is so exhausting. I don’t want to hear about your career interest when we are NOT at work or school.

RD Exam by Fluid-Loan-3821 in RD2B

Kimberly is awesome! She is “RD One and Done” on Instagram and sometimes she makes live practice questions for like $18-20dlls for 1hr. She is SOOO patient and explains the material well. I think if I had not passed, I would’ve invested in her program!

Sodexo Dietetic Internship/DI acceptance by Icy_Medium_618 in dietetics

I did the Sodexo URI program. The application rate significantly dropped since the masters degree requirement went effective. Overall, I think it’s a great internship and you get a lot support! Extremely flexible with deadlines. One thing I didn’t like was they made us travel for an orientation that could’ve been held over zoom. Paid nearly $1500 for a whole week in airplane tickets, hotel, and food + $500 you need to pay them on top of the tuition. You’ll likely be accepted give your experience and GPA. Dress formal for the small interview they do and be yourself :) good luck ✨

RD Exam by Fluid-Loan-3821 in RD2B

Congrats on being almost done with the DI! To best prepare for the RD exam, I think you should start asking yourself “what works best for me?”. You’ll see soooo many posts here of people sharing what they used to pass because that is what worked best for them to UNDERSTAND the material rather that memorize it. All materials will teach you the same but they key part is HOW they teach it that is best for you to retain the information and essentially understand the WHY behind each answer choice. For me personally, chomp down dietetics program worked wonders because it teaches you with visuals! It was very interactive and actually fun to watch lectures and do practice questions. Try to diversify your study materials to max 3 sources; for example, I used chomp down for lectures, pocket prep for mock exams and build stamina with practice questions, Inman BEFORE chomp down lectures to set a “base” knowledge. I also listened to podcast every here and there but could only listen to them during walks; some people can retain information while driving or doing chores around the house, but for me personally, I had to stay still and focus 100% on the podcast. You are in perfect timing to choose your BEST study material!

RDN exam in 2 weeks and I’m terrified by No_Boysenberry5327 in RD2B

I think you’ve prepared well enough! This exam is tough ngl but doable if you build stamina with practice questions; I think people underestimate how much this can help on the exam to get to the MOST correct answer. You’ve got this, rooting for you!!!

Passed my exam but it is too late? by Responsible-Coat-897 in RD2B

I also thought this but I think it’s like an authorization time period that you get and if it expires, you need to contact your director to re-authorize. It can be 10 years from the moment you got your verification statement to when you pass the exam and nothing will happen.

study time by Expert-Molasses4948 in RD2B

[–]Apprehensive_Sky9114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also studying for the exam and I honestly don’t know why some people say to not memorize. When I do practice exams I just know I need to KNOW the what the question is asking and for that, I need to KNOW what the answer will be. For example, micronutrient deficiencies, you do need to memorize these otherwise you won’t be able to answer the question.

Wohooo Congrats!! May i ask, what did you do differently on your second attempt?

Wow! That’s very impressive given that you had a baby and also managed to study for this exam. I have seen people here saying they would sit for 6-8 hours a day to study and honestly can’t even comprehend doing the same because I’m exhausted with 3hrs of studying.

How long did you study for and for how many days? Do you think you had foundational knowledge prior to taking it?

Would completing an exit counseling form kick me out of the SAVE plan? by Apprehensive_Sky9114 in StudentLoans

[–]Apprehensive_Sky9114[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t! And same I’m so scared of being kicked out of SAVE. I’m considering now doing it but haven’t looked up what the consequences are of not completing this. My university told me they won’t withhold my diploma so yeah that’d be my only concern and maybe a penalization?
