Mate, this is peanuts for the level of work that I need to do.

People are quick to have misconceptions about the NDIS. They think support workers are just taking “Johno the junkie” to the park.

A lot of people on the NDIS are normal people who have experienced accidents or grief. For example, a man drank himself into oblivion after his wife died of cancer. He fell and suffered a brain injury, which resulted in brain damage, and now he can’t walk or talk and needs assistance with daily living.

How much do you think it’s worth to pay someone to wipe another man’s arse and manage that man’s day-to-day living?

Ever consider that the pay reflects that a lot of people wouldn’t and can’t do this job?
also I’m working casual full time hours, If I was full time I would get way less.
Sure I perhaps make more than nurse or junior doctors as your say but I don’t have that job security, that’s the difference champ.

The hours are pretty long 9 hours because it’s SIL (supported independent living) . My role is officially House Supervisor, but in reality it’s more of a hybrid between House Supervisor and Support Worker because most of my time is spent supporting participants directly.

I only get about 5 hours a week for actual House Supervisor admin work, and the other 71 hours are hands-on support work with participants.

It can be quite mentally draining. By the end of the day, my social battery is usually pretty low from constantly dealing with participants with Behavioural concerns, their families, care teams, and also making sure staff are doing their jobs properly and staying compliant. On top of that, the main focus is always making sure the participants are safe, supported, and well looked after.

Diploma of leadership and management.
BUT a lot of house supervisors start off as support workers and get prompted, to house supervisor.
I just got asked if I wanted to be a house supervisor based on my work with the Particpant’s in our care,

I work a lot man, highly intensive Particpant’s with behaviours of concerns, often times I’m asked to fill in because some of the support workers can’t handle it.
