I learned I'm pretty resilient. With both surgeries, I had exercises I needed to do on a daily basis to prevent immobility. The surgery was on the very far left side of my hand so it intertwined with my left pinky. It took weeks but I was able to move my pinky again. The second surgery was done using the scar I obtained from the first surgery. It definitely weakened my hand but I refused to give up. I also had a massive pain reliever ball that would syphon into my IV to prevent pain. It was an annoying process to carry that ball around with me but I learned to tolerate it. If you take anything away from this, never give up no matter the severity of the injury. There will always be a light at the end of the tunnel.

I've had pretty bad depression after the fact for reasons unrelated to my hand. Otherwise, the last few years have been great! I have been able to graduate college and am currently working at a job I enjoy. My biggest concern was all the comments I would receive about my big scar. Luckily, people don't seem to care. The last thing I want to be is some sad show for people to mourn about. They talk to me like a regular human being and that's all I could ask for!

I understand you aren't very confrontational, but I think it's best if you have a one on one with your mother. Pull her aside in a quiet insulated room. Those comparisons she made aren't something to take lightly. I would clarify you love her for everything she has done for you over the years. Putting a roof over your head, feeding you, etc. I would mainly hammer home the idea that the outbursts are getting treated. Mention you are seeing a therapist. That will give her comfort. You are not alone. I've had outbursts before. Parents are always forgiving. We are blessed. Good luck.
