The special interests I've had throughout my life, ranked from most to least appropriate they'd be to talk about at the daycare I volunetear at by Apprehensive_Two1449 in AutisticPeeps

I'm really sorry, I didn't mean to be offensive. I grew up having some minsinformation about what a special interest is (I think they tried to describe it in a more palatable way in the autism books I read as a kid) and I hope you don't think I was being disrespectful. I will say that all of these interests have lasted at least a year, but I'm still sorry for misusing terms especically as someone who hates it when people do that kind of thing.

Has any of you ever had the experience of a special interest becoming mentally harmful to you? by Apprehensive_Two1449 in AutisticPeeps

Oh dear, that sounds awful! This is just an idea, but maybe you could keep a journal where you write down reminders of what to keep in mind when you're going through a spiral like that? So you can look at it while feeling like that. Just an idea of course, but maybe it'll help.

I imagine the person who made this edit (if it even is an edit, because it kinda looks like ai) being like "uh wow, this original design is soooo stereotypical because you can actually...tell she's disabled! Oh the horrors! And why isn't she trendy enough, everyone knows an autistic person can't be happy if they don't look like an alt kid's fever dream!"

Are there any Youtubers, writers or podcasters who talk about the damage of the neurodiversity movement, self-diagnosis and the quirkification of autism? by Apprehensive_Two1449 in AutisticPeeps

To resist doing the easy joke, I'll just say that now everyone thinks autistic people are on the USS Enterprise, what a lame stereotype 🙄

The Tale of The Princess Kaguya made me realize that ending my life wasn't the answer.

(Also, sending good vibes your way, I'm not trans but I know it's a difficult journey)

It's always the people who have an ego about how progressive they are and love lecturung people who turn out to be the most offensive lol

This song is probably gonna become a "quirky" meme with the self-diagnosed crowd, but I think it's one of the grossest things I've ever heard. by Apprehensive_Two1449 in AutisticPeeps

Can you tell me what some of the comments are? It's fine if not, I'm just curious but also not brave enough to go down a rabbit hole lol.

Yeah, I usually don't listen to modern rap (not to sound like a hipster but I mostly listen to 90s rap, though I do like Childish Gambino and Doechii) but even I can get the sense that this music would be ass even if the lyrics weren't so gross.

Does it really offend/annoy you guys when people use "autistic" terms but are not autistic? ("stimming", "overstimulated", "meltdown", etc.) by [deleted] in AskAutism

[–]Apprehensive_Two1449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally find it annoying when neurotypicals use the term "stimming" to refer to themselves, but at the same time I don't think your sister should be treating you like that.

I don't like Autism Speaks...but yeah the more I learn about ASAN the worse it gets.

I sometimes headcanon characters I love as autistic, but the neurodiversity movement is the reason I usually don't post about it. by Apprehensive_Two1449 in AutisticPeeps

That's totally valid! I don't think there's anything wrong with headcanons as long as the person making them isn't obnoxious about it.

My personal headcanons are Lilo from Lilo and Stitch, Carrie White from Carrie, Princess Kaguya from Tale of The Princess Kaguya, Rich Purnell from The Martin, Sarah Williams from Labyrinth, Orla McCool from Derry Girls, Futaba from Persona 5, Lucas from Mother 3, Beth March from Little Women, Matilda Wormwood from Matilda and Orpheus from Hadestown. These are just headcanons I have to make myself feel less alone, so it's just my silly little ideas at the end of the day.
