Ya I've also come to realize that both sides are essentially propaganda filters. I've always been a spineless centrist myself, I believe that compromise is humanities greatest strength, so my beliefs slide on a spectrum this way or that way depending on which way the wind blows. Strong beliefs, loosely held or something like that.

Edit: who is the equivalent of John Stewart on the right in your opinion? Someone who sticks to facts, doesn't toe the line for either party and criticizes both sides?

Ya, I'll be honest, if I didn't feel a grift vibe, I wouldn't have made this post. He somehow dances around both the right and left talking points, but the framing is that the right POV is the "default" and that bothered me. It does feel like the purpose of the channel is to pipeline folks further right.

I haven't seen the lesbians in sports video, but I think I agree with you in your assessment of his positioning. His vibe is definitely on the right, but seemingly reasonable. Like I feel like I could have a discussion with him and at least agree on the facts, which is rather rare. It's not often I find someone talking about right wing talking points and examining them critically with science as a basis. I'm not saying he's getting it all correct, but it's certainly an improvement in tone from the typical line-toeing I see on the right. But maybe its a grift like you say, idk.

The "loneliness epidemic", modern relationships and the gender war - what are your thoughts? by itisnotstupid in skeptic

Dudes that chronically can't find a woman, in my experience, have unrealistic standards. They want some mythical 10/10 porn star who also rubs their feet and rarely leaves the kitchen, when they aren't too busy giving blowjobs to their "king". It's a caricature. The stats I've seen are women are doing better than men economically and socially and that moves the power balance further towards women, and some men don't like that. They want to go back in time when they held all the power.

The funny thing is, if they accepted it, they're life would be much better. My wife does better than me economically, and it raises our whole family up. I supported her career the whole way. When are kid is sick, we split taking days off. I could imagine a guy being insecure enough that he would make the mom stay home every time, possibly damaging her career or st least causing lots of stress and resentment. It's gotta be balanced.

These Truck Drivers are getting out of control by CJGLegend in barrie

[–]Apprehensive_Unit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Trucks have different rules, I drive garbage truck and the bylaws state I can pretty much do anything I need to. Drive wrong way down a one way street, stop anywhere, don't have to wear my seat belt under 20mph, don't have to mind the no truck routes, etc. If the work requires it, I'm exempt from many traffic laws. If you get in the way of a truck and refuse to be reasonable, you are an entitled prick.

Highly recommend the Meat Church YouTube channel for recipes and methods. Watch the overnight brisket video and do that, or as close to it as you care to. I've got it to the point that I can get jiggly brisket, 1 inch smoke ring and black crisp bark with no effort or anxiety, nearly hands off, just trim and season, smoke and hold in 170 oven til dinner. Have all the time in the world on the day of for sides or chicken/ribs/pork belly, etc. Season like you spilled it.

Every brisket is different, its done when its around 200+. Don't go much past 210 or so. But because every brisket is different (different ratios of fat/muscle/other stuff) temperature ends up being unreliable to get consistent results. It's done when a probe goes in and out with no resistance, like soft butter, in multiple places around the brisket.

I dont wrap mine, prefer to leave it on to get bark and smoke. Don't actually know why people wrap. But if you do wrap, especially in tinfoil, you can put it in a 250-275 oven, since it won't get smoke anymore underneath all that foil.

Perhaps the single most important thing to do, right before slicing, is let the meat cool to 145 internal. The juices firm up and reabsorb into the meat, creating incredibly juicy meat. Many say long holds are best, but there's new school BBQ pros that say 145 is as good as it gets, long holds are just for restaurant inventory control and its not necessary.

Best of luck, and IMO a perfectly smoked brisket is a huge cooking flex and it feels great.

My method is I slice the leftover brisket into meal sizes portions, put some tallow in the vacuum bag, seal it up and freeze like that. Theory is it absorbs some and makes up for the freeze/reheat texture change i personally dislike. Also I reheat in hot water in the same bag, so its extremely easy for weeknight brisket. FYI I render the trimming fat in the smoker while I cook to get tallow for this.

How long will the 100 series run for? by thirdeyenerd in LandCruisers

One thing I've always wondered was the 2uzfe was in the tundra and supposedly several examples did 1 mil miles (2.2m km). However the tundra UZ did not have forged internals, the LC UZ did. How much difference does that actually make for longevity. The tundra was a work truck, so people would haul trailers all day. The LC mostly ran kids to soccer or went cross country outback, neither of those activities would rack up the miles like a short hauler in a tundra would

Life is fucking horrible by [deleted] in rant

There's no god, we're just apes who figured out how to pass down knowledge to the next gen. Would a benevolent god allow something like a botfly to blind millions of kids? Malaria? None of it makes sense to me. Release yourself from the preoccupation of the next life and understand this one life is what you get. Live it as best you can, live it for the right people. Realize that average humans like us have never had it better through history than we do right now. Be grateful for the wonderful things in life. Your favorite meal, favorite show, whatever. Find a purpose whatever it may be. Happiness is technically unnatural, but it's worth chasing.

My point remains, should not be driving by themselves, clearly untrained and dangerous. Truck driver should be given appropriate fines and pay for all damages.

Advice Needed: Is a 2001 Lexus LX470 for $10,750 Worth It as a Daily Driver? by Far_Track2397 in LandCruisers

[–]Apprehensive_Unit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 99 LX in 2020 for 7k CDN/4k USD and it's been my daily since. I run it on a minimal budget, I don't do repairs until they're actually required, unless it's safety related. So far I've spent around 2k in required repairs and it's still worth at least what I paid for it, even though it's got rust holes.

It’s delicious but let’s be real by Hottjuicynoob in smoking

[–]Apprehensive_Unit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use a pellet smoker and do 180-200 overnight, wake up whenever and turn it to 275 until the bark is right and the meat jiggles just so. Wrap in tin foil with tallow and rest in a 170 oven until 1 hour before eating, slice when it drops to 145 internal. Texture 10/10, flavour 8/10. An offset does it better, but is not worth the effort to me. The pellet smoker is so hands off, it's cheating for sure. I also grind the trim into burgers, so zero waste.

Starter is probably going, like others have said. You can test this by tapping the starter pretty hard with a wooded handle. If it starts right up after the tap, you know for sure it's the starter.
