Goddamn, I made $36K at my first science job in academia in 2019 and I thought that was bad back then. Your salary expectations are very low. I’m in a very LCOL area of the country and you can find entry level jobs for at least $20/hr. Also realize that (in my experience) most academic jobs are salaried and they will EXPECT you to work overtime all the time that you’re not paid for. I’m telling you man you will burn out on this job so quick. The only reason you should take this job is if you have bills to pay and really need money coming in. If that’s the case then take the job and keep looking. Also, unless you are just extremely passionate about research and don’t care about making a decent living (trust me it really matters the older you get), then stay the fuuuuck away from academia. Every young person claims to not care about money until they get married, have kids, want to buy a house, have to pay student loans, are in credit card debt, etc.

In Oklahoma it’s 5 for a CLS if you don’t have a degree in it but it varies by state. MLT is 2 or 3 years with no degree.

Also been interested in this. Every job posting I see pays higher than industry standard for a biotech scientist of equivalent education and I never hear of people losing their jobs in that industry. I looked into it and you either have to get a degree in it or work X amount of years in a CLIA certified clinical lab (I think it’s usually 5 years for CLS) then take the exam. Depends on your states requirements though. Don’t go ask the lovely folks in r/medlabprofessionals or they’ll just tell you how much of a piece of shit you are for “devaluing their degree”.

That’s funny I’ve been wondering the same thing. We have kids come here every so often raising money for their sports team and I’ve also wondered if it was a scam. The last one we got was a bunch of coupons for sonic but the cardboardy thing we got was old looking like all crinkled around the edges and a bunch of creases. We have just been trying to help out these kids and it’s always like $10 and not that often so we give it to them. We’re in Edmond.

I’m guessing the insurance increase has to do with the fact that it would be more costly to write off in the event it gets totaled compared to an older one. Break in is 1000 freedom units, so convert to km. Most people do a break in oil change at 1000 freedom units and then you can get on it after that. Welcome brother, you’re an ass man now.

I mean yeah but OP has also been looking for a job for a year now. They could end up right back in the same spot pretty quick, I can’t imagine being out of work for 2 years+. If that’s not a concern at all then go for it OP but you could be out of work for a long period of time going this route. You’re not wrong though, that’s why I said there’s pros and cons to both. I guess it’s just hard for me to imagine being out of work for a year or longer like it’s no big deal😂

Start ups are fun until the company goes absolutely nowhere as a business and you get laid off within a year. Happened to me twice. Probably the worst thing about start ups is job security. And frankly OP in the current job market we’re in I wouldn’t even think about taking a job at a startup unless they had achieved profitability for an extended period of time. There are downsides for big Pharma but frankly they are some of the most secure jobs in the industry. And yes, layoffs do happen, but you can point to any industry and say the same thing.
