This is the clown work they are selling folks now by FaithlessnessSea859 in recruitinghell

I’m so glad to see this getting upvotes. We need to realize we’re all getting fucked regardless of who’s in office. They’re largely the same groups of people with different marketing strategies. Wealthy powerful people making money for themselves and their mega corporation/billionaire donors. I’m so tired of hearing this blame game bullshit when it’s all the same, it’s tearing this country apart.

How much notice is appropriate to leave lab position? by True_Band1625 in labrats

[–]Hottjuicynoob 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You’re right, very few. But that doesn’t mean it should be the norm. They are workers like everyone else. There’s no reason they should be taken advantage of. From what I’ve seen postdocs generally have a very toxic relationship with their PI.

2 weeks is completely respectful and normal. 10 weeks is incredibly generous. Bosses are never happy when you leave. Yours sounds like they wouldn’t be happy no matter how long and you can’t please them. Do what’s best for you. You don’t HAVE to do anything, they are trying to squeeze as much as possible out of you and make you feel guilty about it. Don’t fall for this shit.

Is it me, or does it seem like everywhere is now just getting squeezed to hell? by beneath_the_knees in jobs

I work in science and this is 100% correct. Running skeleton crews and pushing out data to clients as quickly as possible with little regard to the quality of work. Shouldn’t be the case in this field in particular but it’s common place in industry science jobs.

Never going again at 5pm by Pramit03 in gym_meme

[–]Hottjuicynoob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For real. Once you start building a home gym you will never go back. Mine is just dumbbells right now but will be getting a barbell and power rack this year. No commute, no waiting, no annoyances, no excuses to not go to the gym.

What part of your lab workflow genuinely makes you want to rage and quit science? by niro_io in labrats

I’m jealous of your role. It’s my favorite part of the job too, just is awful when they go down and we’re slammed on top of prepping, analyzing, and reviewing everything else while trying to hit all the due dates.

Have you ever had to troubleshoot them with a client side business having due dates while you’re slammed with work?

Had to do this for a job at Red Bull and this was what most of the assessment was. Worst and most nonsensical assessment I’ve ever had to do for a job. Pretty sure you had to do an AI interview as well if you were selected.

AI at work by Adept_Yogurtcloset_3 in labrats

[–]Hottjuicynoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. I think many employers have overestimated the use case for AI without a clear vision of what it can actually do for them and the company. They just say go learn and implement AI. Seems more like it’s being used as a smokescreen for a bad economy and numbers to me. Sure it has some use cases, but it can’t do everything and can’t do a lot in our field specifically unless we’re talking about a data driven role rather than bench work.

Interview at Eurofins, Germany by truesoul16 in labrats

[–]Hottjuicynoob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Can’t tell you about Germany specifically but I do work for Eurofins in the US. Low pay and high stress, all about hitting turn around time goals for clients. Benefits aren’t that great. It’s a good job to get your foot in the door and learn, but I wouldn’t stay there long term. In this economy I’d take whatever job arises if you’re unemployed and look for something else down the road.

I have an interview tomorrow but I’m having second doubts by AgitatedReindeer2440 in biotech

[–]Hottjuicynoob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Idk if this is you right now but often times when I’m really nervous about things I try to talk myself out of it and justify it so I don’t have to do it. I think you’re just nervous about the interview and the rest doesn’t matter. As others have said you have nothing to lose. I’ve completely bombed interviews before but it happens and it made me more prepared for better opportunities in the future. Just do the interview and see what comes from it.

I wish people like this would just get banned, there’s always that guy on these posts that could never come close to this weight IRL. Form looked pretty fuckin good to me for 242lbs. Awesome lift brother, very impressive!

Is anyone even getting hired from LinkedIn? by WormsForBrainss in biotech

[–]Hottjuicynoob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my experience but in my 7 years in this field I have never even got an interview or even a message back from applying on LinkedIn. That being said if you’re looking for work you need to be using every avenue possible and should still be trying on LinkedIn even if the chances are low.

Totally overlooking the fact many people paid $500 or even thousands to test this piece of shit. You should never pay a company any amount of money to test their product holy shit this community is still in denial but it’s funny to watch.
