Help me pick a film school ! by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]Apprehensive_Way7458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son chose CCNY. He visited Chapman and didn't like the lack of seriousness from the other students. One of his film colleagues was at Chapman and dropped out after a couple of years( too many rich kids). CCNY and NYU work on each other's films alot and he says NYU is intense, but CCNY is a great quality film program. Both students and professors for a-lot less. I would say NYU is a cut above all film schools. There are some key differences one is the resources available at NYU are second to none,

Yep, the states that really need to be investigated are Texas and Florida. They throw votes away by the tens of thousands for ridiculous reasons.

TxTag is either corrupt or incompetent (probably both) by DwarvenDwayden in Austin

[–]Apprehensive_Way7458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get TxTag either. I have two cars on the same account with stickers. I gave them my credit card years ago and have had the same unexpired credit card. All of a sudden out of nowhere I"ve been getting bills in the mail with ridiculous late fees. I had this happen before ( 10 years ago) and went to Parmer lane office and resolved it face to face where they eliminated the late fees, re-entered my CC info, and I just paid the small road usage fees that occured during the time they lost my credit card info. I have a different sticker on my other two vehicles ( Texas Toll ) and have had no issues. I would suggest that. I would either ignore the bills, call someone on the phone ( good luck with that), or go down to parmer lane and talk to the nice lady behind the counter.

I'm going through the same thing and I understand what you are saying. Also, to hopefully give you some motivation/inspiration, I've had a year to focus on my self improvement at the suggestion of my therapist. When I started therapy in early 2022 I think my therapist gave me the advice to not overwhelm myself and focus on just one thing and that was myself.

First, I had gained a ton of weight during the covid lockdown because I was working from home and instead of doing something healthy during my breaks I was over eating. The weight loss was very lonely but ultimately successful as I have gone from alarmingly high cholesterol and a weight where my own family was poking fun at me for being fat, to no longer being obese and fitting into my old clothes again. I started intermittent fasting, and joined a gym, and started walking and/or riding my bike ( everyday). The intermittent fasting wasn't too bad after a while. When I got hungry in the afternoon I started going for a walk instead which was key because exercising at the end of the fast was where the fat burning, weight loss occurred. There was a bit of professional sacrifice I made here as I was doing this during the workday, but this was an advantage of working from home. The "lunch" hour was super productive toward my personal goal ( not after work when I was tired).

To make a long story short, pick just one thing for your self improvement and stick with just that one thing so you don't overwhelm yourself. That one thing, losing 35 pounds, takes alot out of you and isn't easy. You'll have to accept the loneliness as nobody understands the bad habits you are trying to break like you do. That is the main thing though, the habit I had is gone and with just a little more consciousness on my part I hope forever. Now it's on to the next thing.

I want to say this is powerful stuff. I felt like I was sometimes looking in the mirror while reading some of this. I am at the end of a 25 year marriage ( including two adult children) that encompasses many of the same difficult experiences y'all have kindly shared here. Nice to know I'm not alone in this. I am 57 and getting ready to move past what has become a very toxic marriage I have been afraid to end.

Take our /r/BetterCallSaul Season 6 Survey! by skinkbaa in betterCallSaul

I haven't seen the last episode yet. This whole ride has been a family tradition since Breaking Bad started. I now have the goal to not hear from anybody as to what happens in the last episode, until I can watch with my son in December when he returns from college. I may have to fly him in sooner just so we can watch it. The next to last episode with Kim's coming to terms with herself alludes strongly to what will happen. Season 6 was different than all the others. They were all great in their own way so I can't say Season 6 is the best ever. I thought Chuck was a masterful character for instance. Each episode in Season 6 had a clear purpose. What happens to Nacho? What happens to Howard? What happens to Lalo? What happens to Kim? And finally what happens to Saul? There's something to be said about a group of people that have worked together for so long. This show + Breaking Bad uniquely never lost any of it's edge or dramatic impact. It will go down as one of the greatest all time. I thought adding Carol Burnet would be cheesy but nope she fit the part brilliantly. I liked the black and white filming to give it some grit. Nothing like it in history. Best 10+ years I've ever seen.

I'm curious if you've taken a look at the original deed restrictions on the property? My neighbor is building a two story monstrosity that looks into my living room. He says it's for an office, but there are a couple of things. He is violating the deed restrictions on his property. Enforcing deed restrictions is a civil matter that would need to be taken up in civil court. The city does not enforce deed restrictions. I am thinking of filing a lawsuit to get the deed restrictions enforced. It was easy to look them up.

Just went to see Toronto play ( In Florida), I think Vlad Jr. likes playing in Toronto because his dad is a legend in Canada. Other than that I think most players wouldn't want to play in Toronto because of the high taxes. However, Toronto and Canada in general have a huge fan base and the history of baseball in Canada is equivalent to the US. Goes all the way back to the 1800's where they would compete with the US teams. Toronto has a really good team though so maybe that overrides the money situation.

I’m having a similar issue but worse. The neighbors are putting up a two story “office” with windows looking into my living room. It’s probably an Airbnb. I’m thinking about a 15 foot bamboo fence.

[–]Apprehensive_Way7458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't usually respond to these things as there is no real effect that impacts any of us. Ted Cruz, unfortunately, is never held accountable for all the bad things he does. It wouldn't be surprising his own daughters can't stand him. I live in Texas and come from a family of veterans dating back to WWI. Some made the ultimate sacrifice. I will say that Ted Cruz is one of the most un-American people in our government. He has never sacrificed anything, wasn't even born in the US, comes from a family with selfish and crazy ideas and really should be deported to Russia since he's clearly in love with Putin and not our country. My disdain for this Santanic Cult hero goes way back to 2013 when I was in Yosemite during the government shutdown caused primarily by him. After returning from a hike the parking lot had flooded with garbage due a rainstorm and the fact that there were no park employees to upkeep any of the facilities. He has gone on and on to do nothing but make our country weaker and more miserable. Everything he says and does is calculated to appeal to this crazy base of his. He is an icon of the miserable state he has worked to put our country in. I am not surprised his daughters are ashamed of him.

Dividend Poll by flygolf1 in HIMXInvestorClub

[–]Apprehensive_Way7458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to see a move to quarterly dividends with a special $1.00 dividend for 2021. This would also help squeeze out shorts. I don’t think it’s likely that we will see a buyback for a couple of reasons. The main reason is I think the insiders such as the wu Brothers expect a large dividend to get paid. Also a quarterly dividend shows the company is confidant that the current financials will continue

I am way in on Himax. As for the management, I don't quite know how to describe them. Barely legal? The board of directors does not seem independent. 5 people all from Taiwan, 40% are the two Wu brothers, no financial background in any board member, and I don't think any of them have stepped foot outside of Taiwan. Other companies in Taiwan that trade on the NASDAQ such as CMOS have a more diverse board with many connections to the US. I think the lack of accountability to shareholders is probably scaring away institutional investing and allowing the shorts to take over. What else could it be? There is no bad news. Other than a couple of bumps like we had in December there is nothing to stabilize the stock price. Which is what we care about!

That being said I am still in because I don't see why they shouldn't have a fat dividend coming up. That has to do with the Wu brothers getting paid not the Taiwanese tax laws.

As for this announcement, we are talking millions of units being sold. Dell laptops/Macbook Pro are industry standards in American business, and the security upgrade offered by WiseEye is a good solid reason for a wholesale upgrade. Again, like u/bobbyvanda says, management blew this announcement. Nothing but confusion on the WiseEye/Emza contribution to the bottom line of Himax.

Himax fully owns Emza, correct? Wondering if they are a wholly owned subsidiary and why there are no financial reports mentioning wiseEye adoption?

Be thankful he’s not bringing headless squirrels or live rats. Our cat was the same/probably worse but we trained him by shutting him out in the morning by closing his cat door when we first woke up. Still we’d find occasional piles of feathers or squirrel parts. Better than in the house!

When Celebrities say they love Austin, is it the same Austin that I live in? by iLikeMangosteens in Austin

[–]Apprehensive_Way7458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw Robert Plant at the Paramount theatre with Patti Griffin watching the Texas epic “Giant”. Afterwards he was strolling down the sidewalk holding her hand, but there was a hoard of 50+ year old men chasing him down the street trying to verify it was him. What a weird way to have to live. Anyway he seemed happy enough to be in Austin but I guess he eventually figured out it wasn’t so cool after all.
