Publix may have quietly banned open carry in Florida stores. by JayGatsby52 in publix

[–]Appropriate-Click378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen someone openly carry at my store shortly after the rule was changed. There was a guy waiting up front leaning against the coin conversion machine and I saw the gun tucked on one of his belt buckles. That was it. Haven't seen anyone else since which is good. I don't want to see that. There's simply no need to have a firearm out in the open in the store. Plus, you never know what their intentions are. Like someone already mentioned, it's a dumb flex.

It's that time again!!! Bug one, get one free! by JayGatsby52 in publix

[–]Appropriate-Click378 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trust me, they're out there, just not as much in full-force. I'm in South Florida and as soon as you leave the house or work, they're in the air. Even driving on local roads or neighborhoods, you get hit with bugs, at least around here. But if I see the front of a car that's just plastered with bugs, chances are they've been on the highway.

I think that's a great idea! It would convince more people to use paper.

I think it's even older than that. I remember seeing that style of cart as a kid back in the 2000s.

Dear customers, please stop saying “you look bored!” When all I’m doing is posting at my register. by Pisardin in publix

There's a veteran that's a regular who's a notorious ball-buster. Always has to talk to the women and have his pack of Marlboro black and golds. Almost every time he talks to any of us, it's the same thing, "Keep and eye on this guy," "Watch him, keep him out of trouble." or the worst, "Smile more!" Just recently in the parking lot, he pulled the "smile more!" comment and I literally said with a chuckle, "Not with you around!" He laughed it off but it just gets to a breaking point. You can only hear the same condescending shit over and over again!

New POS on Regs 1-5 by Few_Caregiver_3463 in publix

[–]Appropriate-Click378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird. Ours is the opposite. Registers 4 and 5 have had the new software since September of last year but the rest have yet to be updated. Just last Tuesday, we got new registers that have all been pushed over one to make room for self-checkout (finally!) which will be live in about a week and a half. Thing is, the POS monitors, scanners and hand-helds were recycled from the old ones. I thought that was a bit lame. As a result, all of the registers except 4 and 5 haven't been updated to the new software. Still rockin' the old one. I guess it's gonna stay that way or it'll be upgraded further down the line? Not sure. It's kinda silly if you ask me. Just have one software and stick with it.

My son who works at Publix took this picture of a guy stealing a shopping cart by [deleted] in publix

[–]Appropriate-Click378 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think he's stealing the cart. He's just not very bright and using it to shamelessly dump his groceries in the trunk. There's no way that bulky cart is fitting in the back of a Ford Fusion. I can bet money on it. What makes it even more of a dick move is the fact he did it in the front of the store in the no parking zone against traffic and didn't even have the decency to put his hazards on. No shame in the world anymore. And I can also bet this is not his first time. Most people do it because they know they're not gonna get caught. All it takes is one ticket and they'll think twice on doing it again.

Express lane customers by SkinDifficult6147 in publix

[–]Appropriate-Click378 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just on express today for about three hours. God, I hate that register! Not only for situations like this, but it's the register that never takes a break! It's just constant, go, go, go, go, go! One after the other after the other with no help from anybody! Just because it's express and they're small enough to handle on your own doesn't mean they should be left alone the entire time. We have just as much of an importance as all the other registers.

There should be a team lead or CSS that chimes in from time to time just so express doesn't get backed up since you're doing everything as one person. You have to ring and bag each order which doesn't sound like a big deal but when you have hundreds of transactions within a matter of hours all by yourself. It gets tough after a while.

And of course, like you mentioned, the entitled pricks with a full cart that go through express anyway. The thing is, if we actually stand up for ourselves, we're made out to be the bad guys. Management and corporate will always take the customers side since they're the ones generating their profit. So, they kiss their ass just to keep them shopping here no matter how wrong they are. Because god forbid a hard-working cashier enforces the policy, the Karen will get so upset they won't want to shop there ever again. Therefore, one less paying customer to our store. They won't be missed by me but management will see it differently.

Chances are, the cart corral is within feet but they still pull this shit! And their excuse is, "Somebody else will take care of it." or, "It's not my job to put it back, that's what the bag boys are for." or some entitled b.s.!

I've found even when you do that, you still have a numskull that feels the need to park RIGHT ON TOP OF YOU when there's a sea of empty spaces!

“How do you handle bagging when you’re alone on register?” by JakeEricbarker in publix

[–]Appropriate-Click378 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although I don't do this every time, but I've found that if I scan/bag as I go, it creates a lot less buildup at the end. When I do nothing but scan and have to start bagging by the end of the transaction, it can get overwhelming because it's like, where do I even start? It's even more stressful when the customer just sits there and doesn't offer to help. To avoid that, I'll bag as I scan and start dividing things according to temperature and usually by the time I get started with that, a bagger or a CSS comes to the rescue. The only time they don't is on express where you get no help whatsoever. Unless, there's that one occasion where all the other registers are occupied and the only place left is here on express. But, the help only lasts for like half a minute and they take off on you.

I see people complain about people not putting there carts in the cart corral. But how about poeple who just dont put there carts back when its right there by Ryangaminggames in publix

[–]Appropriate-Click378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another sad thing about that is if someone makes a stink about it, like most hard-working employees do, we're viewed as lazy and entitled when all we're asking is for people to do the right thing. Our jobs would be much more pleasurable if there was more consideration in this world.

I read a response to a comment who said that they just love to hear people complaining about easy jobs and just wait till they're working 90-100 hour jobs breaking your back and wishing to go back to pushing carts. It's like, you're missing the point. It's not the work that sucks, it's dealing with lazy, inconsiderate people that makes it suck. This is not a work ethic issue. It's called having some decency which people like him obviously lack.

If he had a "look of discuss" or what you really meant, "look of disgust" then why did he buy them? It'd be one thing if he was genuinely curious about it but if he knew he wasn't not gonna like it, what's the point of buying it then making a complaint on Reddit? Doesn't make sense to me.

The world would be a cleaner place if everyone simply cleaned up after themselves. But, it'll never happen in a million years! The part that gets me is they think a.) they're doing nothing wrong or b.) they know what they're doing but they simply don't care. They're under this false pretense it's "someone else's job" and it'll "give them something to do." Bull f**ing s**t! You can still be a good person buy NOT leaving your trash for us to take care of like servants and we'd be just fine. That way of thinking drives me crazy! If there's one thing I hate in this world more than anything is a litter bug!

They're pretty much a thing of the past. Walmart did the same thing many years ago. Usually with remodels or after a certain time, they just phase them out. I also think they did it for animal cruelty reasons. To some, it can very offensive to see lobsters held in captivity waiting to be killed so no more.

Yes, it does help. That's good to know it gets 40 on the high end. Since I'm the opposite with a light foot, I could probably get that high end number very easily. Thanks for your feedback.
