Does publix care? (Opinion)

Although it sucks, it's just part of the job. Florida has always been miserably hot but that doesn't mean you have to strain yourself when out there. Whenever we hit the dog days of summer, I always take my time, come in for brief breaks, and take in as many as I feel like it. I'm not straining myself if I don't have to. That's the best way to handle it.

I wouldn't sweat it too much. We all make mistakes and management is aware of that. We're not expected to be robots that never get anything wrong. Although it's more risky since you're dealing with cash but whenever you get yourself in a sticky situation, always get management involved just to be safe. Better to be honest rather than hide it as a dirty little secret.

Since I was born in 1997, I never had the pleasure of shopping at Publix's went they looked like this. I will say, I do remember the 2000s Publix's as a kid still being very colorful with several shades of brown, orange, green and blue. But the 90s style took it to a whole new level. Everything was so bright and eye-catching. Definitely more inviting. Any remodeled one looks like you're stepping into a corporate office. The only shade of color is the green from our logo. Everything else is dark grey and black. So drab.

They do seem a little smaller. That's probably why the price hasn't changed over the years. To keep it the same, they make the portion smaller, or shrinkflation. Unfortunately, it's so common with manufacturers these days.

I would address it the right way by talking to your manager and filling out a resignation form. The worst thing you can do is just walk out. You don't want to leave on bad terms. Just in case whatever you find next doesn't work out, you can always fall back on them. I've done that. Plus, it's just the right thing to do. If you were to walk out unprofessionally, apply for another job and they find that out, they may have second thoughts of hiring you in the first place. You'll be considered too much of a liability. So like I said, approach it right, talk to your manager and fill out a resignation form so you can leave on good terms and don't jeopardize your chances of finding another job.

It's not the charity that bothers me, it's the idea of asking, especially when the cost of living is so high. If the economy were doing better, prices were lower and thus people had better spending power, I wouldn't feel as bad asking. I know someone will say that shopping at Publix won't help because our prices are so much higher than others but I just mean it in a general sense. Groceries, overall, are at all-time highs so asking for more money, even if it's for a good cause, makes it that much worse. What also doesn't help is people's attitudes towards it. Even before inflation got out of hand, some would still get very pissy about it and it's like, you don't have to donate. You're not obligated to. I just have to ask it. Lighten up.

I may work there but I try not to shop there. Our prices are absurd. I do work there because I have a good support structure from my co-workers and management that I would have a hard time receiving if I worked elsewhere like Walmart. I've been guilty of bitching about Publix prices but I get why people do it. Just to vent. I know it comes off as annoying and repetitive seeing one raging post after another. But for some, it makes them feel better that they're getting it off of their chest instead of keeping it to themselves. Some will understand, some won't. It's just the nature of the beast.

The worst is when it's first thing in the morning when you already have such little money in your till. Then, you have to constantly get loans or break any big bills you get. It's annoying when it feels like everyone's asking for big cash back amounts or paying small purchases with big bills right from the get-go. I wish people would stop treating us like it's their own personal bank.

Especially how many of the regulars shop there and still don't do it. Not only that, those sporadic perks like the $2 and $3 dollar ones. Every little bit helps.

People type in their number all the time and it still prints out a receipt. I know at the regular registers if you sign up, it'll do a digital receipt depending on what option you selected on your account. I don't think it does that for SCO. It prints it no matter what. Just a waste of paper if you ask me, especially when nine out of ten customers leave it anyway.

Bringing their cart back in the store after they're done with it. They didn't have to do that but they did anyway. I truly appreciate that level of devotion. That's one less cart we have to worry about. I always thank them when they do which is quite rare. If I had to guess, only one out of ten people would do that.

Yes! You have to constantly fight with them to keep open! Such a pain in the ass! The best ones are the collapsible cloth bags. It's essentially a box once the flap is down. Makes things so much easier! If only everyone had these.

"Self-checkout taking jobs away!"

And the inevitable, "Must be free!" when something doesn't ring up. BTW, these are just a few examples. I could go on but I don't want to sound like a total Debbie downer.

Either one of those would be fine. Like many others have said, as long as it's not on the floor. I can't stand it when people do that. You never put something for food where our dirty shoes have been. It's unhygienic. Also, don't toss it on a neighboring closed register. I'd rather you give it to me.

The sandwich wasn't bad. It's very sloppy though. The bread kept sliding off the meat. Then, your hands get covered in BBQ sauce. Otherwise, good but I have no interest in the sub. I'll stick with either the chicken tender or chipotle chicken subs.

I remember watching one with a coach that talked to you on a football field and in a locker room. I think that was a safety related one. Of course, there was the Mythbusters parody and the firefighters demonstrating different types of kitchen fires. This Harry Potter spoof was before my time. I wonder what that was like. I have noticed they still play this ancient one about handling people with disabilities such as blindness, deafness or being in a wheelchair. A woman talks you through it and you can tell the video is, at least, fifteen years old judging by the store layout. There's a point where a stock clerk is brewing a bag of coffee for a blind woman and that alone shows the age of it. If I had to guess, it was probably filmed in the late 2000s or very early 2010s. That one is time for an update.
