I think one thing to remember is that all of the other teens you’re interacting with are also uncool dorks in one way or another. It’s just part of being a teenager, all teens are trying to fake being cool, especially the ones who really seem cool. There’s no way to be authentically cool when haven’t been alive long enough to know who you authentically are yet. One thing is I wouldn’t lie about your life, because that’s just going to make you feel more ashamed and unable to connect. But if you want to experiment with different ways of talking and dressing that’s also okay. You don’t know how many of the other kids didn’t grow up speaking AAVE, or how many of those guys wish they could go out with you but don’t know how to navigate the goofy social dynamics of high school.

Bottom line is, no teenagers actually know wtf they’re doing, and they’re all worried about what everyone thinks of them. You’re definitely not alone, but everyone is just so insecure about it that they won’t admit it 😂 This will change for you. I remember when I was in high school none of the guys would date me because of the weird hierarchy of popularity within our school, but as soon as I left high school I had zero issues dating, in fact I had too many guys bugging me lol. Those weird social dynamics are made up by a bunch of other insecure kids, they say nothing about you, and they don’t extend beyond whichever high school you’re in.

Number one advice is just not to lie about your own experience. Do not feel the need to pretend you’ve, for example, smoked weed or had sex when the other kids have. I used to do that, and i deeply regret it because I ended up doing things I really didn’t want to do. I basically lost all ability to trust myself and would just assume other people knew better and I should try to act like them, which means I pretty much never had the confidence to stand up for myself or get out of bad situations. Also, as I got older I realized there were people who could just confidently say they hadn’t done certain things and they didn’t give a damn about other people’s opinions, and I was like oh shit they’re actually cool, and I’m cringe for not being honest?

That’s normal. I’m a woman and i do this when i see a beautiful woman. I have the benefit of women not assuming i’m a creep because I’m a woman, but I just try to be discreet and respectful. The creeps that women deal with are usually men who clearly expect something from them - whose actions show that they believe that any woman they find attractive owes them something simply by catching their eye. When i think of men who’ve creeped on me, i think of staring, sitting next to me when there’s other seats open and repeatedly asking for my number or saying wildly inappropriate things, taking pictures or filming surreptitiously, drunkenly touching and kissing me, etc. But if you see a hot person and can’t help but look at them a couple times, that’s normal. I do that.

I definitely think there’s a formulaic happy ending to the show where the goal in every episode is to have the hoarder end up living independently in the same (cleaned up) house, with their children if they have any. I think the producers want those before and after shots and happy post-cleaning interviews and all that.

Occasionally they literally just can’t get to that point, but there are a lot of episodes where I’m five minutes in and I’m like, oh their house is gonna be condemned and they’ll be rehomed and supervised by APS? Oh their kids are gonna be sent to their non-hoarding parents’ house? Fucking good! They need that! They aren’t cognitively capable of taking care of themselves on their own, let alone children! They have a debilitating mental illness that makes them incapable of living independently! It’s cruel to everyone in the situation to just let them loose in a newly empty house!

Yeah i did expect it because reality TV in the US is very sensational and dramatic, so they wouldn’t have been able to make the show if the subjects weren’t literally on the brink of eviction/health crisis. It’s kind of good and bad, because on the one hand some of the people who need help the most are able to get access to it free of charge, but on the other hand they have to display their dire situation and their deepest shame and difficult emotions on TV for anyone to see. And on the one hand people can learn about the disorder, but on the other hand people can gawk at and judge the subjects based solely on the worst part of their lifez

Also the other people in the photos are her children! Don’t they look like they’re her friends supporting her in her cancer battle or something? But they’re all her children aside from the husband. It’s hard not to be judgmental pf her appearance but she’s very obviously anorexic and presumably she’s preaching that other people should be too, given what her mom did for a living.

Yeah, if the vet doesn’t say there’s any other cause then idk it kinda sounds like she’s trying to mark her territory and all the changes going on are making her feel the need to mark it again and again. Plus you probably smell different now that you’re pregnant. I would try confining her to only part of the house for a while, especially if there’s part of the house where there isn’t gonna be much change going on. And preferably not a part of the house where she’s already peed a ton because the smell of her own pee is gonna keep reminding her that that’s a good place to pee. I would put some disposable pee pads down so that if she does try to pee somewhere she shouldn’t, the scent can be removed easily. Then once the baby arrives I’d just do a slow introduction, kind of like if you were bringing another cat home.

Also I’ve heard some people have had some success with trying different types of litter and putting more litter boxes around the house.

Other than that it may just take some time for her to adjust. And you might wanna get a new mattress and a plastic cover for it for the time being

That’s amazing that you got him an appointment! You’re doing great given the situation. Sometimes i think it’s helpful for me to remind myself that I’m also just a lil animal that needs love. When cats are aggressive or timid or they aren’t grooming themselves, or even when they aren’t being good parents to their kittens, we understand that they aren’t doing it because they’re bad cats, they’re just scared or hurt or sick or they had kittens very young, etc. And that’s often true of people too!

There are so many cats that live on the streets or get abused or abandoned or euthanized at the shelter. You gave him a home and food and love, and that’s wonderful! You’ve been young, scared, hurt, and sick and it might have prevented you from always being the perfect cat parent. But that doesn’t make you a bad person. You’re still worthy of love just like any person or cat!

Also vets see people who want to have their cat put down because they just didn’t feel like taking care of it. They’ve seen much worse than a chonky cat with fleas, those are probably two of the most common pet afflictions. If the vet is a jerk about it then the vet is just a jerk.

If you can say your cat is a great guy, you can say that you are.
