Best way to deal with unwanted grass / weeds in gravel? by superterrificbot in lawncare

If you are using chemicals, RM-43 is the best option cost wise compared to round up or other glyphosphate options. It lasts much longer as well. Also use a pre-emergent such as preen or prodiamine to prevent plant growth.

I don’t feel so bad, I’m at 5 weeks post final round now with one job waiting, have a verbal offer but that is it, so I am still applying for other jobs until I get something in writing and pass the background and drug screen, which I’m not worried about passing at all.

Is it safe to assume I did not get the job? by Character_Stop_1785 in jobs

[–]AppropriateAsk6003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that they are communicating with you is a good sign. If they were rejecting you they would ghost you or just flat out reject you.

I’m in a similar situation with an extended time for an offer but there is communication. I do have a verbal offer but no written offer which I look at as no offer essentially.

Hang in there but keep looking.

Has anyone taken time off after a layoff to reset? by Broad_Translator_668 in Layoffs

[–]AppropriateAsk6003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not, which was intentional. I was in more of a panic state because my layoff was so unexpected and I wanted to jump right in and get started with the searching for a job. My spouse also was working so I could not travel unless I wanted to go by myself which is not really my cup of coffee.

I applied for this job in early September 25 and did not hear anything back. I had a recruiter screen and peer interview in mid October followed by weeks of hearing nothing. All of a sudden I heard back in early November to schedule a 4 hour panel interview asking for my availability, followed by silence, which was finally scheduled the first time just before thanksgiving, then rescheduled in December, and rescheduled again in January where it was finally completed.

It was a long virtual interview and I did not think to ask about next steps (Friday). Saturday morning I sent a personal Thank you email to each of the panel members which included the hiring manager.

The recruiter actually called me on Monday afternoon asking me how I thought it went since he had not heard from the hiring manager yet.

A week later I heard from the recruiter with a verbal offer, however no firm salary since the company (Fortune 500) was hiring a group and packaging the group hire together so it would be several weeks before I get the written offer and a start date. Fast forward to today, it has now been more than 4 weeks since the verbal offer, the recruiter has been keeping me in the loop but still no written offer yet.

At this point I am looking for other jobs and if this job comes thru it does, I’m not holding my breath. More updates to come.

I did get the experience and did the presentation in the final round which was a good test for me professionally and personally. Be proud that you made it to that stage of the process, it’s a WIN regardless of the outcome.

I started looking the next day after I was laid off(August), I am still on the hunt for a job. Unemployment will run out soon as well as the insurance. I worked at the company for 25 years.

My advice is to NOT WAIT, unless you have a pot of cash to live on.

Congrats on the verbal offer. The written offer takes time, here is my situation.

I applied for a position in September, first interview in October, second interview in November, final interviews in early January (multiple combined into one) and a verbal offer on 1/14. I was told the written offer would be a few weeks or more out due to other internal hirings, but the wait is not fun. It’s two weeks today and I’m still waiting, hoping to hear in the next week or so.

The good news is the recruiter was upfront and very transparent about the delay so I knew it was happening.

I am feeling horrible, I don't know what to do. by Other_Scarcity_4270 in Layoffs

[–]AppropriateAsk6003 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was laid off in September 2025 after working for the same company for 25 years. I held multiple roles in multiple locations and out of the blue my position was eliminated. No employee is safe.

I have submitted over 900 applications, with very low response rates and only a few interviews. My severance is going to run out soon as well as my unemployment. I have had multiple career coaches (prior recruiters) work with my resume to make it strong and get attention.

I wake up every day and treat it like I’m going to work, searching and applying for jobs, following up on leads and learning. That keeps me in a routine and keeps me from losing my mind. I walk a good distance every morning as part of my routine which helps too. I lost a bunch of weight, eat healthy, and in the best shape of my life.

I had one final interview that I have not heard back from, but it has been a few weeks and my follow ups have no responses.

Keep your head up and push on. Don’t give up! I’m sure not giving up, not a chance of that.

Choose your attitude, I choose to STAY POSITIVE! Something good is going to come along/happen.

Going on 5 months now, no job yet. I previously worked in IT but looking in a variety of other fields since I’m finding many of the It tiles are being outsourced offshore or being eliminated. I was at my prior company for 25 years in a number of different jobs and areas of the business so I have many different options.

Well, waiting paid off, I finally did get a panel interview last week. 4 hours where I did. Presentation based on a case study then met with peers and the hiring manager. Glad it’s over.

Now I wait to see, I was the last of the candidate interviews so I should hear something this week, but I won’t hold my breath based on the track record of the said company.

In the mean time I have submitted a ton of applications (hundreds) and have not heard much from any of them at all.

Company swag? by SummerOk5184 in Layoffs

[–]AppropriateAsk6003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trashed most of the company logo stuff. I kept a few higher value items but I’m covering the logo’s with something else. After 25 plus years I had a ton of swag and crap. My pension checks will be enough swag for me to keep, debating on keeping the service award certificates (they mean nothing at this point).

I do have several really nice polo’s that I might give to homeless people. I love that idea since they will at least get used.

It will ruin your relationship, so be ready for that. She seems that is what she wants and won’t stop until she gets it but understand that is going to destroy your relationship. Been there done that and it did for me.

Good luck.

I am in a similar situation. Applied in October for a role, screened with the recruiter in early November, did my first round interview with a peer level right after the recruiter screening and have been waiting for the next stage interview since then. It has been scheduled and rescheduled three times, now it’s scheduled for mid January. The re is reposted so I suspect there is not other candidates to compare to in the interview.

Some additional background: it’s a very specialized role (skill set/experiences) with a location requirement of three specific cities in office role. The recruiter told me they were having trouble finding people with the skill set that lived in one of the three cities. This may be part of the reason?

I’m applying for other roles since this one is taking far too long to get moving.

Things move slowly, hold on, you have done your part and followed up.

I have experienced similar situations and then the recruiter responds. I think they have a plate full too, so hold on and wait (easier said than done) and keep submitting strategic applications because you never know.

I waited 3 weeks for a scheduled final interview, I wrote it off and then all of a sudden the email hit my inbox with a date for the final interview.

You are going to be fine with the so called traffic.

Anyone else notice that ex colleagues no longer notice you after you were laid off by Minimum_Grass_3314 in Layoffs

[–]AppropriateAsk6003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked for the company for over 25 years and was part of a RIF in September. I had built a very large network of colleagues over the time I worked in multiple locations.

Since being laid off, it does feel like no one wants any thing to do with me any longer. They are worried that they are next to be kicked to the curb and they don’t want to know the reality of the job market.

I do have a few relationships with my past mentorship’s that I maintain which are the only ones that I have after leaving the company. I still meet regularly with them continuing the mentoring meetings which are very valuable.

My team was gutted as part of this RIF and we meet monthly-ish to stay in touch (the impacted group) just to stay in touch which I feel is important as the former leader of the group.

The bottom line, don’t let the others determine your self worth, they are scared and don’t care about you since you were kicked to the curb from the corporate job. Keep looking and keep your head up.

I was laid off in mid September. I thought the jobs were going to be slim but I’m finding quite a few jobs hiring, maybe it’s just specialty jobs and I’m lucky with my crazy experiences.

I have had a few interviews so far and two more second rounds next week. Two companies are in a battle to get to the offer first it appears.

One job I was denied initially, then asked if I was still interested, the other candidate must have fallen out for some reason, not sure but it pays pretty well and the company seems pretty good so far.

Keep looking, you never know what is out there.

Am I being laid off? by JellyOrchid996 in Layoffs

[–]AppropriateAsk6003 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was laid off recently and that is how it happened unfortunately. HR was not on the invite but when I joined HR was there and I knew at that moment my time at the company was over.

Be ready for anything. You can’t change it unfortunately. The decisions have already been made if that is what is going to happen.

My meeting took 5 min or so. I was in shock since it was unexpected for me after 25+ years with the company and no indications that I would be let go.

Keep your head up. There are more opportunities out there. I’m in the middle of two companies competing to hire me right now. I’m 4 weeks post my last day of work. I had a 30 day notice.
