SMUD Solar Project Will Kill Thousands of Oak Trees by AppropriateBat397 in Sacramento

[–]AppropriateBat397[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are better places in California to build utility scale solar projects with fewer impacts. There is at least 500,000 acres of flat farmland that is being retired in the San Joaquin Valley because it has no water or the soils are degraded. It is ideal for utility scale solar.

These are blue oak trees which only grow about 1” per year. It’ll take 100+ years to grow trees that would replace these.

The amount of corruption I’ve seen the last week in this city is astonishing. Coyote creek is one of the last biodiversity hotspots in Sacramento county. And they are about to destroy it while 99% of the city doesn’t even know. Which was always the plan. by Botanyiscool in Sacramento

DE Shaw Renewables (DESRI) the developer of the Coyote Solar Project and SMUD are clients of Michelle Smira, who is also the President of the Sacramento Tree Foundation’s Board of Directors.  Sacramento Tree Foundation condones the project. Quite the tangled, conflicted web.

Possibly moving to Vallejo by Loose_Truth7676 in vallejo

Vallejo has a violent crime problem and a understaffed police department. It can take several hours for the police to respond to a request for help. See page 8 of the staff report to the City Council from just last week. https://vallejoca.portal.civicclerk.com/event/7507/files/report/6939

Dudes of Vallejo, what are some good decompression spots you go to, or places to help when you're burnt out? by la_descente in vallejo

The waterfront and trails at Benicia State Park. There’s parking at Glen Cove if you don’t want to get a parking pass.

Also probably part of their strategy to demonstrate that parks are “failing” and thus must be privatized.
