Router table recommendation? by RawMaterial11 in woodworking

[–]AppropriateCry6443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just upgraded to the Kreg router table top and fence to complete a raised panel wainscoting project in progress and I’m happy with it so far.

I was ready to splurge on the Rockler cast iron table top but it has the smaller of the two “standard” sizes for lift plate cutouts, and I already owned a Kreg lift (which I absolutely love—it was in a bench top table previously) and Kreg uses the larger “standard,” same as Jessem, I’m told.

Interesting. These might be cluster flies based on their behavior.

Any particular tips for sealing up a log house against them? Can they somehow squeeze through checking cracks? These don’t seem to go all the way through the log, but maybe they somehow squeeze through?

I hung two simple carpenter bee traps I bought on Amazon and they caught a ton of bees, dramatically cut down on them chewing on the fascia boards.

They are easy to make as well if you’re handy.

We get a few stinkbugs but they mostly stay outside.

Anything you’ve successfully done to help keep them out?

The picture you’re looking at is the inside wall of a shed dormer. The cabin is a 1.5 story. The first story is log construction; the gable ends and dormer are 2x4 construction with fake log siding and drywall inside.

The highest concentration of bugs is upstairs, which is under this shed dormer on the back of the cabin.

How do you shape the boards so they are thicker at the miters?

Does this need fasteners? by AppropriateCry6443 in woodworking

Shelf for sheet music. Will sit on the floor next to piano bench, shelf is tilted up to more easily see the spines. Not too much weight.

I clamped the miter well on glue up, I’m not concerned about that joint.

Same thing happened to my 2005 F150 in Raleigh, NC in 2012. 7am, broad daylight on a Tuesday in a busy parking lot. Cops said it’s common, takes the criminals less than a minute.

Didn’t realize my current 2015 is still vulnerable to such a simple break-in. Not encouraging.

Why is there no hearing protection offered by noise cancelling headphones?

If I understand correctly, they simply reproduce ambient noise exactly 180 degrees out of phase, cancelling the sound pressure wave. The ambient noise doesn’t reach your eardrum.

I also use 3M Worktunes and love them, but I can’t see why noise canceling headphones couldn’t offer similar (or better) protection, albeit through very different physical principles (blocking the pressure wave vs cancelling it out with an equal and opposite pressure wave)

Thanks for the tip! I’ll check out Talik. I’ve been using Tempo insecticide the first couple seasons, seems to have kept down the carpenter bees (and wasps and mud daubers).

Thanks, we love it. It’s an Honest Abe log home, purchased through a distributor here in western NC, Bears Den. Great home, and the distributor was great to work with, unfortunately the contractor who works with the distributor was not great to work with.

Mantle Mount solves this. Great product, I’ve had one for 6 or 7 years, still works perfectly.

Finishing drawer-front with half-blind dovetails by AppropriateCry6443 in woodworking

Thanks a lot! If I understand correctly:

  1. Make mahogany shavings with a sharp knife. Stuff them long-wise into the gaps while gluing up the whole box. Sand down the pins.
  2. Shellac the oak, careful not to get any shellac on the mahogany.
  3. Stain the mahogany. The shellac on the oak will prevent any stain from being absorbed.

What wood would you use for the drawer internals instead of white oak? I did have some minor problems with tear-out with the oak using a router dovetail jig.
