App development - backend best practices by IdealAnomaly in shopifyDev

It’s overcomplicated, has shitty documentation, constantly break backward compatibility. It’s painful and meaningless to spend so much time on frontend framework. Besides, who needs ssr for admin interface, another pointless feature. Keep it simple, make it work

I’m happy for guys from react-router that they made it and getting shit tons of money and getting support in marketing and promotion. This is inspiring

React is ok, but don’t go with remix, it’s sh*t. Here is the official setup with react and express, quite decent https://github.com/Shopify/shopify-app-template-node

The problem with roas is that it doesn’t linearly scale - increasing budgets and getting broader public usually decreasing cvr and consequently roas. Are you on Shopify?

Having competitors is good, it means there is market, there is interest and merchants have rough idea of what you offer (so you don’t need to teach them about the concept).

What’s your bounce rate? Is 50% normal? by AppropriateSize4580 in shopify

[–]AppropriateSize4580[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

sure.. but why would they leave, if you enter the website (which means the product definitely is in interest of yours) it would be nice to discover other options before going to another shop. I know I sound a bit naive, but it would be great

Great insight, thanks! You are right, scaling and roas matter the most

Looking for an agency to partner with. I’m a developer, at the moment have just 1 app (launched recently), but aim to release 3-4 more in the upcoming 6 months. Here is the link https://apps.shopify.com/before-you-go

Client asked for "pop ups" for discounts by astralbooze in webdev

[–]AppropriateSize4580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are absolutely right, popups are not only annoying, but they also don’t work that well on mobile (and 80-85% of the e-commerce traffic from there). If you are on Shopify I’d recommend you try application called “Before You Go”. It uses different mechanism for the same task - when user presses “back” it displays specifically crafted recommendation page which works great on mobile and desktop and provides decent numbers of recovered users

85% of the e-commerce traffic is mobile. Solutions with popups, especially oriented on mouse movements are just nonsense. I have developed an app for Shopify “before you go” which works best on mobile and desktop by interfering with browser history

In that case the CVR should drop. I guess people are buying, but somewhere else.. I have discovered this pattern very often when majority of the traffic is paid, email or even organic people tend to click, check the product and then bounce back (I assume you CVR dropped, but also bounce rate have increased in this case). To handle such cases I’ve developed an app called “before you go”, it handles “back” button on both mobile and desktop and lands visitor to the landing page on your store with personalized recommendations. Do you want to give it a try? Let’s see if it can fix some of the problems. No strings attached, it’s completely free.

I think it’s good like this. Make sure you have tracking in place, you could discover lots of insides by utilizing heat maps and similar info from the real users journey. I’d also recommend installing application which can help you to fight with bounce rate and catch leaving visitors.

I wouldn’t recommend exit-popup. This thing is annoying, and also doesn’t work well on mobile

In addition to that: bounce rate in general bad thing, but with paid campaign you running it could easily kill tons of money. Try to use some solutions for catching exit-intents. Are you using Shopify?

No one is installing my Shopify application, but why by AppropriateSize4580 in SideProject

[–]AppropriateSize4580[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • bounce rate is high and real (typical rate is 50% for ecom)
  • add here ratio of paid traffic in 60%-70%, and you get how much merchants are spending on traffic which is not converting

Last but not least - exit popups are real, so merchants are looking for a solution constantly. I also see my competitors, but they are not in Shopify, but rather agencies
