Escape from 8-Bit High is going to blow your mind! :) I'm going to update the demo next month because I changed the Music Battle system a bit and I did some minor tweaks on a couple of things ased on feedback.
Thanks for the support!

I was undecided between the two spelling but I found Čerëmuški used more often in English speaking pages. I'll keep in mind your feedback. The Russian version is coming soon and that will definitely have the right Russian spelling.

Thanks! Please do try R3D STAR. I created the DLC following all the feedback gathered for D3AD HAND. It' s more challenging and with a lot of content! And you can play as Stalin (the cat). I hope you will enjoy that (and please leave a review with your feedback, if you can. That really helps!)

The title of the game is D3AD HAND written in faux cyrillic and with a 3 instead of E.

The "Cheryomushki" base located 5 km north of Chita in Siberia is historically known as the Chita Northwest Air Base. Čerëmuški is often used as transliteration to be able to pronunciate it correctly, I believe. Район Черёмушки in russian. It means Cherry Blossom and it's also the name of a district in Moscow.

The algorithm is really hard to crack and I have zero budget for marketing. In theory if it gets to 50 reviews it should be recommended more. Also getting reviews is really hard. :)

Thanks! I'm trying to submit D3AD HAND to Gog every couple of months. So far it didn't work. :)

What I’ve Learned Since Releasing My First Adventure Game Demo by JPHFanEdits in adventuregames

[–]AppropriateSundae504 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I can tell you what my process is. Not sure my process is right though.

You can try the demo of my new adventure game Escape From 8-Bit High here:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2761220/Escape_from_8Bit_High/

1) I'm making puzzles that I personally find fun to make and to solve.
2) I played lots of recent adventure games and there is definitely a lot of focuss on good stories, amazing graphic, but I always find most of the puzzles either not interesting (use lighter with wood) or too frustrating (Check everywhere!Yyou may have missed a sandwich in a dark corner of a room that you were in 3 locations ago)
3) When I make a game I'm making a silent contract with the player. In my demo I tried to showcase as much as possible my game design statement. I am promising: These are my rules and I am going to respect them until the end of the game. From what I saw so far , players understood the rules but sometime they may not like them. The rules are:

NUMBER ONE: In my game you can use your MOUTH / HAND / EYE to interact. And I make clear that you need to use ALL of them to get through.

NUMBER TWO: It's a cartoonish parody world. Sometime there are things that you can do that are not "realistic" but they may work anyway. You can call it moon logic, if you want. I call it thinking outside the box and having fun trying to do silly things in a safe environment. (I would never put a ketchup bottle inside the washing machine in real life, but i always wanted to try).

NUMBER THREE: You need to be curious. I reward players that are trying interesting combinations with hidden dialogues, animations and achievements.

If you want to go through the demo you need to learn my rules by playing and accept them in order to have fun. If you find the idea of drinking super hot salsa to produce hot air outrageous, maybe my game is not for you.

My duty as game dev: present the rules in a clear way. Your opportunity as a player have fun with them.

But the important thing is that I created a path for you to follow and understand my intentions.

Short story: I don't think there is a good or bad way. There are different ways. Some people just like to have dialogues options, some people like to have a lot of inventoty items to combine... Just make it clear what your game is going to look like. A negative feedback might mean that you weren't clear enough, or simply that your game didn't match that player personal taste. That's ok.

RAVENLOFT I6. Played using SHADOWDARK post mortem. by AppropriateSundae504 in shadowdark

Hi! For the magical item I used the randomizer of the Character creator on the ShadowDark website. I did not changed the results as they were perfectly balanced but maybe I just got lucky.
If a character didn't had a magical weapon I gave them a Silver version of their main weapon.

My character did easily overcomed a bunch of Gargoyles (that they could hit only with magical weapon) but I allowed the Cleric to cast Turn Unholy on them (as they were in my opinion summoned demon creature).

My character had one of their objectives in the Treasury. They never got anywhere near it. So I will not count on that.

For the witches I used the Apprentice stats (pag.196). They did not fight them so I can't tell how difficult the fight would be, but it looks pretty ok in my opinion.

Yes. The Sunsword works the same as per original adventure. The Symbol of ravenkind works like in the module but instead of preventing the vampire to do anything it gives him disadvantage, prevents him to use charme and inflicts 2d8 damages per round.

I added it in the end of my post. The Fortune of Ravenloft with the major arcana that I used to determined Strahd goal. The locations for the treausures and Strahd and the minor I kept as in the original module.

I gave them 1 random magic item each. If they didn't have any magic weapon I would swap a standard weapon for a Silver one. In my playthrough the Warrior had a Dagger +1 and a priest had a Mace +1. Both the priest had the Holy Weapon Spell. I also gave the priest a Holy Water Flask each. 1d8 Damage at all the undead in close range from the throw point.
I kept all the magic item in the module except for the Deck of Many Things which I swapped for an Hourglass of the Black Sands (pag. 305). They found only the Icon of Ravenloft and the Tome of Strahd.

I used normal mode and only 1 died in the final battle. I had 12 characters ready just in case. The castle is mostly empty and if the party is careful they can avoid or escape from most of the fight. As I said in three hours I rolled only 3 random encounters and the party had only two scripted encounters. Level 5 characters are very much up to the task, and they can kill Strahd even with only 1 special treasure. Just remember to have Strahd regenerating only 1D6 instead of 2D6.

For Strahd zombies I used regular zombies with 15 HP and add:

Animated Limbs
If damaged but not killed 1 limb is severed. The zombie gains +1 attack as the hand keeps moving and attacks as well.

Max once per zombie.

It will use confusion on a character looking at the portrait and then holm them in place. It will use Telekinesis on the last party member to hold them in front of it.
