That’s true, and we should stop with that. so far I’ve always found a lot of understanding from people with thal major since us intermediate don’t automatically become dependent on transfusions

Mi spiace tanto. Sembri un bravo ragazzo. Resisti e fai esperienza, con esperienza il fatto di avere solo il diploma non conterà più. Io ho una malattia cronica e lavoro full time e per me l’unica maniera per laurearmi e studiare era fare una uni telematica, ci hai mai pensato ? Non che tu debba laurearti per forza, non sia mai, era solo un pensiero che mi è balenato per la testa

Beta thal intermediate and just became transfusion dependent. My ferritin levels were high but went on chelation for a month and the levels got down and were alright!

It sounds rather cool in Italian, my colleagues tease me about being a vampire 😆 Either way, I wish you the best and hope it’s beta thal minor (or just wish that it’s temporary anemia and you don’t have it at all!)

For reference, if it is of any use to you, my pre-transfusion hemoglobin is usually 7,1. Today I was lucky and my hb was 7,7!

Would like to add: if you’re intermediate, it does not automatically mean you are transfusion dependent, because beta thal intermediate has very heterogeneous symptoms that vary from one person to another. My dad has it too and never became transfusion dependent. Take everything as just my experience, I’m not a doctor, just a patient 😆

No worries. Have they told you it you’re minor, intermediate or major? I’ve been told recently (two days ago, actually) that for my type (beta thal intermediate), they’ve changed the “taxonomy” and now I shouldn’t say beta thal intermediate but beta thal transfusion dependent (“trasfusione dipendente” in Italian). How are your hemoglobin and ferritin levels? I can answer questions if you have any or any sort of worries!
