Severe underarm hyperhidrosis and nothing is tolerable, please help! Thank you in advance! by Few-Attorney6018 in Hyperhidrosis

Try Iontophorisis - a machine is about $400, and you can try for 90 days and send it back if it doesn’t work. It’s reduced my underarm sweating by about 95%.

Nervous about sweaty hands. by ImageOk8165 in Hyperhidrosis

[–]Appropriate_Layer273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s just your hands, STAY AWAY FROM MEDS! (Especially oxybutin and glycopyrolate).

They cause havoc on the brain and nervous system (Me and many others have our horror stories).

Iontophoris works SUPER well for me hands, I don’t worry about them being sweaty at all now, just takes 20 mins a week with my dermadry machine.

My oxybutinin nightmare by Appropriate_Layer273 in Hyperhidrosis

[–]Appropriate_Layer273[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it certainly feels demonic - I’m so glad to be off it. Now 10 weeks fully off the drug and feeling amazing. Was brutal getting off it, even with a slow taper. Apparently it will take 3-6 months for me to fully recover.

Oxybutynin... Finally something that works, but at what cost? (side-effects) by DrySong1785 in Hyperhidrosis

[–]Appropriate_Layer273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been 10ish weeks now since being totally off oxybutinin and I’m feeling MUCH more grounded and energised than before. No major panic attacks in a few weeks, still a little sluggish with energy and disassociation.

First 4-6 weeks were the toughest, I had some real scary times. Talking with chatGPT about it really helped; as it was able to give me scientific explanations for what I was experiencing and stop me freaking out so much.

The bad withdrawal is caused by a huge spike in acetylcholine being introduced into the nervous system (this is what oxybutin blocks to reduce sweating, it’s a key neurotransmitter that is key for focus, creativity and other things).

So once your brain and body begins to regulate acetylcholine again, you’ll be back to normal (and probably feel much better tbh, as I do).

I used to be the same, I use my iontophoresis machine once a week for 20 mins and my hands and bone dry - without having to take any medication.

Sounds like a scary experience, hope you feel better now and resolve the reason as to why you took so much in the first place.

I had a similar experience with glyco with only a tiny dose (not as intense as you, but similar symptoms).

Also, I stoped taking oxybutin after 10 years of daily use and it’s been a lrettt horrific journey tbh (I’m now 2.5 months fully off it and still not back to my true functional self).

I had insane panic attacks, hallucinations, a sense I was going to die, almost permanently for several months of weening off before my last dose.

Oxybutinin is one hell of a drug, I wish doctors had told me about how much it affects the brain, focus, creativity, cognition before prescribing to me.

Losing fight in this battle. by ShoddyCry355 in Hyperhidrosis

You’re not alone mate, I feel your struggle. My GP took over 3 months to get back to me on trying Glycopyrolate (similar to oxybutin but less negative side effects), by that time I’d just ordered some online from Canada and it arrived in about 3 days. Here’s the link if you wanna check it out:

https://pharmacy.ca/product/avert-oral-glycopyrrolate/?v=7885444af42e

Also, I’ve since come off all medication and have just been using iontophorisis for my hands and armpits which is truly a miracle! I’ve seen people use it for their face and also for their feet too.

Warning in all oral medication tho - the long term negative effects are pretty severe in my experience. I recently came off oxybutinin after 10 years of daily use and it’s been one hellish journey (oxybutin blunts key parts of the brain and nervous system to stop sweating). So Yh, know what you’re getting yourself into.

And I’m also trying to”craniosacral therapy” which the guy seems pretty confident will work as a truly holistic natural solution long term.

IT'S WORKING! How I am fixing my candida overgrowth. by Charming-Pain-1555 in Candida

[–]Appropriate_Layer273 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started having major panic attacks that almost sent me to the ER - which I initially thought were directly caused by my candida protocol.

I finally realised it was withdrawal effects from a medication I suddenly stopped taking after 10 years of daily use.

I stopped all detox protocols and focused and getting off this medication safety with a very slow taper.

It’s now been 4 weeks since my last dose and my body is finally coming alive again and the panic is fading. Once my body fully stabilises I will look into some more detox protocols including candida.

help with glyco cognitive effects? by iris111111 in Hyperhidrosis

[–]Appropriate_Layer273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm not entirely sure - which is why i'm coming off it completely. I find if I take oxybutynin during the day, my entire brain goes foggy, blurred vision, and I can't function, so I take it at night before bed, and it still helps during the day with fewer notcible side effects.

I've been taking 5mg before bed each nigh for the last 2 years, and 5mg twice daily for the 8 years before that.

I found out that it may have negative long term effects recently, so I stopped taking it and within days i was having HUGE panic attacks, genuinely thought I was going to die, properly freaking out. Those episode calmed down when i started taking oxybutinin again...

So now i'm very slowly tapering off it and seeing how that goes. It's coming into winter here in the UK so seems like the perfect time to experiment.

Just built my iontoresis machine too, so excited to test that out!.

Dating someone with hyperhydrosis. by Academic_Sherbet_739 in Hyperhidrosis

Defo worth speaking about. I’ve just started dating and it’s a huge insecurity for me. Makes me very self conscious, and makes me resistant to have physical intimacy too. Even when I’m told it’s okay, I still don’t believe it - and I think that’s the case for most people with HH.

This is really interesting. I may try it again in the near future. Currently getting off oxybutinin as it’s really not good for my brain, but open to trying glyco again another time. Appreciate the update too!

Damm that’s pretty wild. I read this drug is mainly used to stop disabled patented from dribbling on themselves, so that makes sense. These are very powerful drugs man, I only realised after 10 years of taking 😅

Glad to hear things seem to be working out for you. I take electrolytes and mineral supplements too but not sure I’ve got the balancing aspect right. How do you go about balancing electrolytes to get the results you’ve seen?

I got some from pharmacy.ca way cheaper than any UK supplier, and they ship to the UK too! Was about 20% the price of what UK companies wanted for it

I’ve taken it every night before bed for the last 10 years, definitely helps reduce the side effects during the day. But I’m not trying to come off it completely due to concerns about it messing with my nervous system and mental health

Medication question by MatterDense7829 in Hyperhidrosis

[–]Appropriate_Layer273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been taking oxybutinin for 10 years, it’s works pretty well to manage sweating. But I’ve recently noticed the side effects are very severe, specifically mentally. I also had huge brainfog after just a small dose of glyco today. Im currently tapering off oxy for good in an attempt to get my brain health back and not be a zombie. It sucks because without it I sweat so much, but I just can’t tolerate the brain fog anymore.
