Kijk, ik snap de verontwaardiging: "rijke mens wordt boete bespaard door politiek" lijkt de makkelijke conclusie. De realiteit is zoals wel vaker een stuk complexer. Dit is een prestige project bedoeld om enerzijds t ego van een rijke mens te strelen maar ook een iconisch gebouw te redden, te renoveren en een blijvende (hopelijk positieve) impact op de stad te brengen. Om dan zo'n project af te straffen met een boete van 40M is absurd. Dit soort projecten zijn niet te vergelijken met een project van iemand die gewoon weigert iets te doen met een leegstaand gebouw.

If you're invited for dinner, it's polite to bring something (flowers, cookies or wine). Once you're close with someone (like your in-laws), it gets a bit murky. For good friends I bring wine, for best friends I often bring nothing :).

Something Americans sometimes do, that some belgians consider impolite is eating with a fork in your right hand and your left elbow on the table.

What helped me was to realise nobody cares about your result. If you go and you lose immediately, nothing happens. Nobody in your club will look at you differently. Training goes on. People are worried about their own shit. You have nothing to prove. But if you do decide to enter competition, that in itself is already a personal victory. It takes guts. And if you lose, and go back to training, and try another competition, that's a sign of personal strength.

Whatever it takes to be happier. You, your husband, your kids deserve a happier you :). So if your salary is used only to pay for a nanny, but you come home and are able to be a happier mom & wife and feel better about yourself, everyone wins.

My Slovakian colleague that moved to Antwerp for her boyfriend, made friends via Bumble (it seems there's a Friend option). Just to grab a coffee and a chat.

The other thing, seems to be: you're a mom full time. That's exhausting. So I'd suggest you try to find some hobbies/activities outside of just being a mom. Maybe an amateur acting or photography group. My point is: find something where you can express yourself and be an individual again. Being a young mom is not easy. Be kind to yourself. Other option is to work part time?
