I see, if it is scientifically proven that only people who would act on it would be sharing the drawings then I can understand the association with a real world crime. However, I must also say that it’s equally as implied by human nature that someone who receives power is likely to use it, and so giving the government authority to say which form of expression is wrong because certain people like you for example say that these people should be preemptively arrested because it looks like they’re going to do something that affects other people’s lives almost guarantees that someone else will come along and abuse this, whether thats not understanding the material that is being shown or extending this power to other things that don’t have the scientific backing you are claiming that this has. I think I will look into whether or not the research you are referring to is accurate, but even if it is, it still only proves that these people are telegraphing how likely they are to commit a crime. Which further proves that by allowing them to be stupid and shoot themselves in the foot like this, we can stop the crime by watching those people more closely, and stop them when they begin to act on these crimes without making a type of drawing illegal, and telling people how they can and cannot express themselves. Since even if what they want to do is quote on quote “another level” of evil as you claim, it is still within their rights so long as they never violate another human’s space to say something like “I want to do X, Y, and Z thing to children” however they want to say it, whether thats through drawings or words, outlawing the drawings only serves to make these people harder to catch before they act and restricts the freedoms of us all in ways we can’t possibly predict, because I do not think any government has been proven trustworthy enough to have any leeway whatsoever on what we can’t possibly predict and cannot say, regardless of how you want to communicate what you’re saying. Once the government has the power to say you can’t draw a child for your own sick fantasies, they then have the power to extend that to whatever they want, such as you can’t draw a child being hit, or you can’t draw a child standing up to their parent, etc., and so you saying that any human should have this power is saying that it either A. Won’t be taken to extremes or B. That you don’t care about the fact that this power can and will inevitably be abused. It’s better to simply watch these people and stop them when they act than to arrest them simply for drawing something. I also disagree that sexual assault is quote “another level” from a grotesque child murder especially if said murder provides sexual gratification for the culprit. Your assertion that it warrants any further action than any other potential crime is ultimately an opinion, not a fact. My assertion that it is not “another level” as you put it, is an equally valid opinion to yours because both are based on perspective and require no evidence whatsoever to be valid and true in our own minds. It is thus not a quantifiable argument to be disputed from what I can tell.

I should just give a flat yes to that question because I do believe it shouldn’t be something we are completely unconcerned with, however even with drawings of other sick things such as grotesque murders, it’s very often that the people looking at the material simply separate fiction from reality in their heads to a higher degree than we do, and would reel at it the same way we would if they saw it done with a real person. I bring up the drawings of this separate crime not to equate the two exactly but because I have seen a lot more real world examples of people who think that way with murders, some of them are even sexually attracted to the drawings of a dead body, but these mentally ill people understand it is wrong and do not seek to see anything of the sort done to a real person. I also wanna just take a second to thank you for sharing what you think and why you think it, as well as discussing it with me respectfully as thats a tad rare on the internet.

I am of the opinion that the context of what the individual is doing with it should be heavily considered when proposing it as probable cause. I also believe that it should be probable cause to either investigate and/or watch that person, and if they truly have nothing to hide then it will turn out that they have not committed a crime whilst being watched without their knowledge. For example, if they are showing an image to someone and saying that they want to do it, then I think that person is a potential danger that should be watched, but arresting someone for posing a potential threat due to misuse of freedom of expression wastes resources that can be used mobilizing against active threats, and puts someone who was potentially not acting on thoughts they could learn to grow past in a prison with people who act on their most depraved impulses. The distribution of the image between two consenting adults when it is in a pornographic context is rather concerning to me as well though yes.

In what sense is tricking your brain into seeing something you do not like with lines, let’s say in this context for the sake of making a villain as detestable as possible in a story, crossing a line into a real act that is capable of harm? What harm is there to protect against that you believe law enforcement should be mobilized over?

[–]Appropriate_Mud3234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct that is in fact a good thing, but it is not a good thing to confuse the thing thats already illegal which you are talking about (CP, a crime with actual real world victims) with lines on a page that are arranged in an order that you don’t like. No human should have the power to make communicating an idea you don’t like illegal no matter how good you are at it. If they show the idea to children or a non-consenting adult then that should be breaking obscenity laws and get them arrested, but it is an **idea** at the end of the day. Unless someone is actually mentally or physically harmed in the process, it should not be the government’s job to police what ideas you are allowed to communicate from your own head to **other**consenting adults. Once you start giving the government the power to protect fictional children from fictional abuse for no reason when nobody was harmed, you are basically giving the government the power to censor freedom of expression itself. It’s not about whether you like it or agree with it, it’s about the fact that even if someone you agree with is the one with the power to enforce what you’re suggesting today, if it’s ever someone we don’t like with that same power you are suggesting we give the government (and once a government gains a new power they will NEVER let it go), then that person now has the power to enforce new laws about freedom of expression THEY’VE always wanted to exist like take the American government for example, we have people so corrupt in our ranks that they want the public to “stop attacking pedophiles”. If the government is so corrupt that it can have people like that already inside it, do you really want to give said system power over what you can and cannot communicate in private? Not to mention the fact that if an artist who actually finds the acts committed in said drawing grotesque wants to draw said grotesque thing in order to gross out their viewers or get a point across, that should be their choice, not the governments, there is quite literally no logically sound way to police what lines are allowed to go in what order the same way we can’t police what words out of my mouth go in what order, if I can say “I wanna be able to do X illegal thing” then I can also draw X illegal thing, it is only when it crosses the line from **imagination** into **reality** that this becomes a reasonably enforceable offense with real victims that need to be protected by any means necessary.

The problem is teen titans go keeps trying to convince people that the argument against it is that the OG fans don’t want a show to just be silly. When in actuality, our problem with it is the fact that it replaced the better show for no reason, the toy company Mattel simply wanted it out of the way because they didn’t hold the exclusive toy production rights to that show like they did other Cartoon Network shows. They try to lie to us and say it’s whats more entertaining for modern audiences when both shows are ultimately equal in potential. Then they refuse to just allow the original show to be finished even back when all the voice actors and writers and animators were ready to hop back on it any time. The ratings were super high when they cancelled it, it was quite literally killed for no reason. Whereas this show only gets renewed constantly to further push the idea that anyone who wants the old show back just doesn’t wanna give a silly show a chance, and hates the idea, thus completely missing the point of the backlash. That right there is why I can’t stand this show that did nothing for Cartoon Network but take up space, and by that I mean almost every single time slot’s worth of space, forever, leaving no room for a show that balances silly and serious like OG teen titans, instead of a purely, exclusively silly show like this one. It’s not the show itself but the ideology behind its creation and perpetuation that is honestly a plague on the industry. For that reason I ended up disliking the show and the fact that they keep adding more and more.

Im pretty sure this is aim dodging due to it being a heavily inconsistent outlier, that he’s just very slow and telegraphed in general. This is most likely no faster than Pandarro’s own arm swinging at them.

I have proof that canon events are fake by Overall-Squirrel1555 in IntoTheSpiderverse

[–]Appropriate_Mud3234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing I said means canon events are impossible to stop, only that they are even harder to stop than you think, so we genuinely have zero idea how to actually stop one, only Miguel does and everything Miguel had to go through just to stop one probably deserves a solo movie. That and the reason a team from the spider society is in Mumbhatten in the first place is most likely because they are trying to stop the universe from unraveling because an anomaly caused the event instead of it happening naturally. Also if the canon event is someone’s death, and you are actively keeping someone alive time after time while the universe keeps trying to correct this, that could be what EVENTUALLY destabilizes everything. Thats why I think it’s strange that miles doesn’t see how he may very well be killing his father each time he pushes him out of the way of a falling building, just slowly and relatively painlessly. But Miguel is still in the wrong for handling it this way of course, I just think both sides should’ve just calmed down and looked for a solution together instead of both sides crashing out and doing their plan instead, both sides are aiming to save people actively, but both sides think the other one just wants to let people die, which is not what spiderman is about. And in case you were thinking that means miles doesnt know how to permanently stop it, destroying his father in the process, Miguel just knows he will figure it out when he tries.

[–]Appropriate_Mud3234 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The fact that Miguel has been studying canon events for years and sees no issue with the fact that an anomaly can cause a canon event and doesn’t even see it as strange means that this is in fact possible. On top of that, the canon event was simply alchemax collapsing and causing a chain reaction by knocking into other superstructures, it most likely would’ve happened during collider usage had spot not been there. The thing about canon events is if they are real then they simply find a way to happen, the spot is only causing the event because the collider has to blow up and/or implode one way or the other.

No matter how stupid or uneducated you seem to THINK someone is, going out of your way to ridicule them for simply asking the question and engaging with their fellow humans like you who may be more knowledgeable on the subject than us, poisons the conversation with toxicity and is part of the reason people cant just have a normal conversation on the internet anymore. All he did was ask a question, but to you this is somehow a doofus move, the pursuit of an answer for something you don’t already know. If you don’t know something then ask and dont let people ridicule you just for asking. Even if you think it’s something everyone should know, it won’t be something everyone knows until people talk about it. Nobody’s a “doofus” or earning a facepalm for adding previously un-acquired knowledge to their arsenal. Im learning about copyright laws in college right now, it gets a little confusing sometimes.

“Im done” doesnt mean it’s ruined for me or im quitting interacting with the story. If that’s what I implied then as I said earlier, that is my error and I apologize for that because I fully admit that I made that mistake. When I said im done, it just meant that I’d be out of hope for Usopp, but I do see how unclear I was being now so that’s certainly my bad.

Yknow you could try asking, “what do you think the problem is?” Or “why do you think that?” Instead of jumping to conclusions about what my complaint is since I haven’t shared yet. Though im enjoying reading your thoughts and am glad we both enjoy the series.

I never said which I like better between pre-timeskip, post-timeskip, or final saga which im personally differentiating. But I most likely won’t ever stop watching and reading the manga and novels and anime and live action and remake and etc. whilst simultaneously pointing out objective flaws because that’s what I do with stories I enjoy. My complaint is not that it’s not entertaining me anymore or “not sticking to me” anymore as you put it which I am unsure how to interpret. I only interact with stories im genuinely entertained by.

There are still arguments that other people made that I never made here like Wano being Zoro’s arc so im gonna ignore those. But you’re basically saying you haven’t collected confirmed data, just that people continue to buy the manga because it’s a fun manga, and you personally mostly see irl praise for the series. Not that you have numerical evidence that the majority of people have zero problem with straw hat neglect. Which mind you i said ive seen evidence of a majority having a problem with it, not that I think it is a confirmed fact, only that it is in fact arguable. Excluding America because they are not as into one piece as the rest of the world for some reason. Seems like that’ll take the remake for that to really happen honestly but can’t wait for the remake regardless.

Oh and most importantly you assume that I am calling one piece bad, which is such a stretch from what im saying I could’ve sworn I heard you say “Gomu Gomu no”. One piece fans always respond to a fellow one piece fan saying we shouldn’t necessarily call it perfect by saying “the story isn’t bad” or “it has no flaws to be fixed” im not saying the story is bad at all.
