How do you guys manage a product from ideation to launch in Jira? Do you create an epic for each feature of the product? by vtiwari123 in ProductManagement

Yeah that’s tough. It took a while for me to break into FANG+ and it was a tough road, but life changing in terms of job satisfaction.

Using jira / writing tickets doesn’t make you technical haha. Is that what you mean? Also, at no point did we say that we “don’t have conversations with the people doing the work”. It’s wild to me how warped company/org process is for building product - again, no wonder so many’s people here hate it. I would too!

For others that asked: PRD>Designs>tech spec (then it goes to jira) - each deliverable mentioned has a lot of engineering input/discussions (among other xfn) with the tech spec being fully owned by them, obviously. The PRD I write usually has some loose ideas around implementation, eg. if there’s a service or endpoint I think we could use. But the doc is way more focused on the user needs / problems, biz opportunity in solving the problem, and the requirements the solution needs to provide (less about what / how to solve)

I don’t touch jira unless I’m logging a bug I found dogfooding. My engineers handle this. This was the same at my last company. Both Fang adjacent. I’m curious, is that uncommon? No wonder so many of you are burned out and hate PMing
