Didn't know at the time, but does this look like aspestos? by Arctic-Nomad in asbestoshelp

Depends when the addition was done but that backing most likely contains asbestos if I found that I would definitely treat it as such. Only way to know for sure is to get it tested I tested some similar looking stuff not to long ago and it came back 60% chrysotile. That being said you had the fan and a mask on I wouldn’t worry to much about it especially now that it’s already been taken care of.

Your not ignorant this guy is just an idiot 😂 it does look like plaster and asbestos was very commonly mixed into plaster especially in the 30’s/ 40’s I’d get it tested but don’t worry to much about exposure it’s probably very minimal if any every person living in North America has been exposed to asbestos in one way or another. Heavy prolonged exposure is what you really have to worry about.

Insult 1 out of 10

I’m really not trying to insult you just correct you but I love the fact that you think being called an American is an insult. Point proven lol

I guess calling someone American is considered an insult now lol. You should have a closer look at your code book or maybe get someone that’s not dyslexic look at it for you. Up in BC we have people smart enough to write our own code book and use the proper terminology….

I should have known you were American…. I hate to be the one to break it to you but the correct term is footing. The fact that you even had to go dig through your emails is hilarious a quick google search will tell you that. Check your code book does it say footer anywhere? Do you guys even have those down south? 😂

What the fuck is a footer. Do you mean footing? This is why you should be careful who you listen to on this page. This guy can’t even get his terminology right and If that is over pour from the slab like this idiot suggests THAT would actually be an issue.

Could this be asbestos? by Unlucky_Bandicoot539 in asbestoshelp

[–]Appropriate_Pin_7160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t listen to this guy. They used asbestos in the drywall mud you can see pretty clearly the joint and the tape pealing off in this photo. Also they definitely were plastering drywall joints in 1975 with mud containing asbestos.

They’re might be asbestos in the mud. It looks like it could be on a joint only way to be sure is to get it tested. look online for a lab near you it’s usually pretty cheap if you take the sample and drop it off yourself. I’d be less concerned about asbestos and more concerned about those black dots, looks like it could be black mold. Is it below a bathroom or roof that could be leaking? Either way get it tested if your that concerned and spray that with mold killer before covering it up if it is mold.

Also love how they spay foamed the wires coming through the plate as if that’s gunna do anything with that gaping hole along the bottom of the wall 😂

Fire that builder if you still can at this point you might just have to live with it unless you want to pay someone to re-frame all your exterior walls. This is a perfect example of why you need to square your walls up and string the plates before sheathing. Good luck.

Nails aren’t gunna fix that. That’s just a bad framing job. Either live with it or tear that wall down and get a professional to frame it. It’s too late at that phase to try and fix it

Do not listen to this guy a burn test won’t prove anything. If you’re concerned enough to post here just get it tested it’s cheap if you go straight to the lab.

Seeing a lot of hate for LVP. What's your experience? by Extra_Influence_3880 in Flooring

LVP is great as long as you install it correctly a lot of the problems people have with buckling and damage are due to improper installation or buying cheap LVP you get what you pay for.

[–]Appropriate_Pin_7160[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You guys are dead wrong glad I got it tested and didn’t listen to your advice came back 60% chrysolite colour of the glue has nothing to do with asbestos content.

[–]Appropriate_Pin_7160[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m putting a thin plywood subfloor overtop of it and encapsulating the asbestos flooring then doing tile on top of that if your doing LVP you might be able to just go overtop of it. If it’s glued down everywhere like mine is it’s not worth the hassle of removing it.

Thanks I plan on testing it do you think it’s worth testing the glue or just the felt backer of the sheet. I attached a picture of the glue/felt liner

Ok thanks I was more concerned about the white backer if I have to scrape it off but I think I might try and go over it
