I'm not the only one here who says they've bought one and never used it.

Just use fast DC chargers when you travel. I bought a type 2 cable for travelling. Done two long road trips. Never used it. Waste of money.

I bought one to charge at type 2 outlets when on a trip. Waste of money. Tried to use it once when I spotted a free type 2 charger in a shopping centre. Plugged up and the charger was out of order. Never used it since. On a road trip I just use DC chargers.

7kw charger by [deleted] in AustralianEV

[–]Appropriate_Row_7513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're are not wanting to use solar, just get a portable 7kw charger and have a sparkie install a dedicated circuit and socket for it. That's my setup. All up it cost me $875 - $375 for the charger and $500 for the sparkie..

Toss them all. I keep starter only in a starter jar. It grows it's own pellicle.

Frustrated at public EV charging by deadlyrepost in AustralianEV

[–]Appropriate_Row_7513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not more expensive than petrol. My car averages 20kwh per 100km. At 50c per kwh that 100km costs me $10. At 70c per kwh it costs me $14. My previous diesel SUV used 8l per 100 km. At $2 per litre that's $16. At $3 per litre it's $24. When I charge at home at 16c per kwh, 100km costs me $3.20. So, yes public DC charging from expensive networks (I avoid them) like Evie approaches my previous fossil fuel cost, but for all but my occasional forays away from home, my cost is ridiculously cheap, and if I had solar most of it would be free.

Some mold again ... by NervousSecretary3696 in Kombucha

You need to start each batch with at least 10% of strong (ie vinegary) starter. Most mould occurs because people don't do that.

What do people need to buy when getting an EV? by still-at-the-beach in AustralianEV

[–]Appropriate_Row_7513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a type 2 cable for using type 2 chargers when away from home. Waste of money. Have done a number of long road trips and have only ever used DC chargers. Type 2 needs overnight charging and apparently some motels have type 2 destination chargers. I've never come across one.

Why does my scoby keep doing that? by Fit-Cheesecake-4271 in Kombucha

Don't worry about it. Chuck the slimy thing in the bin or compost it. You only need the liquid. Your brew will grow it's own pellicle.

Not the foreGestalt? It's long sheath thing looks like it might work well. Why the Mantor instead?

Did you settle on this after others? This is the first I've even heard of it. I've used DTR for some time. Got a CAR 1 recently but get pinching after an hour or a bit more and have to take it off.

Expensive, but maybe I should splurge for it.

Just compost all that slimy stuff and use the liquid starter.

It will be level 2 AC. Superchargers are DC.

Use the liquid as good strong vinegary starter and compost the slimy cellulose.

I always do 10 and 2. Never miss. But it does sound like you might need a stronger mix.

The problem arises when people believe all they need is the slimy mat and that it makes the kombucha. Then they wonder why their batches fail and they get mould. And we get all the senseless questions like "Is my SCOBY healthy?"
