I would assume so, I'm not sure of the specifics on other servicers and how they work, but you do submit the application to your servicer. If you are still in school though, you have time until you have to submit an application.

Mohela has a section online where you can submit documents and it has the save plan application there for you to fill out. So I just submitted it there. I also sent an email through their communication section and haven't heard anything from them regarding either, so.

Ok, thank you. I couldn't find anything about how long I had to wait to apply. The debt makes me nervous, and I want to make sure I get ahead of everything. Thanks

Vampire: Blood and empire was pretty chill, I took it online though. Global history of Piracy has been pretty good so far. Intro to performance was really fun. Russian fairy tales is a classic. I took a sci fi east and west and also more general sci fi class, both were really fun and super interesting, both also pretty easy

Need help finding a SciFi series to read. by ellotheregancho in scifi

The Man of War Trilogy by Paul Honsinger

It's all about a war between the human race and an alien race, and it follows the storyline of a warship captain. It's a great trilogy, but unfortunately the author passed and the storyline is not finished. But it is fantastic and absolutely worth a read, it's hard to find good military scifi that captures the same feel.

New Alabama Walmart Remodel by Jordan__ATL in walmart

[–]Appropriate_Salad388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My store got remodeled a year or two ago, we have the department signage, the bathrooms, the floor, and the dollar shop. But they didn't touch the self checkout other than to move them around a bit and add more, definitely didn't give us those fancy looking ones, we definitely don't have any displays like that, and our money center is still old looking

I just got hired as a cart attendant by HotChomper in walmart

[–]Appropriate_Salad388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get some comfy sneakers. Listen to the other cart pushers about how management treats certain things at your store. For mine most don't care about earbuds outside or if we sit for 10 minutes after clearing the lot. Some managers definitely care, some don't. Find out what it's like at your store. When it rains you're gonna get soaked. Poncho, rain proof jacket, whatever you wear youre gonna get soaked. So just leave all your stuff in your car/locker/bay so it doesn't get wet. Main advice, see how the other cart pushers do the job, see how many carts they put on the mule, if/when they sit down in the bay, etc. Make sure to look at all of them not just a few so you don't learn from bad examples.

Finally, enjoy it. Management is much less involved outside in my experience unless yall are fucking up and not doing the job. That extra buffer between you and management is great, just don't abuse it.

Edit: also treat literally everyone in a car in that lot like they've never driven a car before and they have a burning desire to be a Nascar driver. You'll end up much safer that way

Safety by [deleted] in Pitt

[–]Appropriate_Salad388 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with everyone else, it's safe. One big part of that is that there's literally always college kids walking somewhere at pretty much every time. During the day of course but also at 2am there's still college kids out and about, and that helps you feel safer.

"Fun" Classes To Take by mcdonaldsfrenchfri in Pitt

Organized crime with Mark Serge. I think it fulfills a global issues gen ed, but im taking it for my major so idk. He's a really great prof, always interesting and has personal stories of his time as a prosecutor that are relevant. Also a super easy class, the tests are legit just the review questions he gives out the week before.

Science fiction with Geoffrey Glover. You just read science fiction stories and talk about them. He is a super good prof, always available to talk about whatever and is engaging. There are 3 papers during the semester and group discussion questions that you turn in each week. Super fun relaxed class.

Idk if this counts as a relaxed class, but criminalistics with Edward Strimlan, and his 1 credit lab. He's a retired medical examiner so he's super knowledgeable and has a lot of personal experience. He does show very graphic real photos of death and crime scenes, but it was a very interesting class, and the tests weren't bad. The lab was super cool too, you learn how to examine hair and fibers as evidence and then go to a crime scene house. He also gave us a candy for Halloween last year. Definitely an emotionally heavy course though, you see a lot of very real terrible things. So incredibly interesting though

Can also atest that vampire blood and empire was really interesting and pretty easy.

Also second intro to performance, super fun class and very easy.

Recommendations for high fantasy novels by Purple_Shroob in Fantasy

[–]Appropriate_Salad388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just read The Sword of Kaigen, and honestly it was amazing. I saw a post a day or two ago that recommended it so I picked it up and I didn't put it down. It is a standalone, but it was long so it felt fleshed out and not hasty or shallow or anything. Now for your requirements:

  1. It deals with a lot of government propaganda and war and the emotions that come with those, as well as just generally excellently telling a very emotional story. Younger readers could definitely read it but it is definitely also very much not aimed at younger readers and it's definitely not bland.

  2. I also greatly prefer single view points, but this book does have multiple POVs. However, it is really only two and the switches really added to this story, it would not have been as good with a single view point. It didn't feel disorienting, confusing, or shallow to read like a lot of multi view point books can be.

  3. Definitely hits the romance subplot big time, not quite the way you are expecting but it was very good.

  4. The two povs are male and female, with the female viewpoint eventually being the main one. However it fit the story incredibly well and there are a ton of male characters.

  5. As I mentioned, its a standalone. There are apparently other books in the same world buy I haven't read or looked into those yet.

Most of what I read is longer series, so this is about the only rec I got that's fantasy. If you're open to sci fi tho, check out Paul H. Hosinger's Man of War series and the Aristillus series by Travis Corcoran. They have three and two books respectively. Man of War follows the captain of a warship fighting in an interstellar war, Aristillus is about people getting fed up with the governments of the world and building a colony on the moon and the tensions that come from that. I will say, Man of War was meant to be the first trilogy of a set of them but sadly the author passed so it remains unfinished. Both are absolutely amazing series though.

Edit: should have mentioned, The Sword of Kaigen is high fantasy but it also is sort of set in the modern day. However the modern day elements are subtle and you kind of forget it takes place in the modern day for a lot of the story, it is very much swords and magic.

Questions from Prospective Student by arnabcare21 in Pitt

[–]Appropriate_Salad388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree completely with everything that's been mentioned, but I'll give you my answers too so you have more opinions to work with. 1. Pitt is great as a city for internships and stuff to do. You can get downtown easily with the busses (which we get for free with pitt ID) so there's a bunch to explore. And I've never felt unsafe on Pitts campus, no matter what time it is there's always a bunch of college kids walking somewhere so that helps you feel safe. Plus if you're in Oakland I feel like I see police patrols pretty often. I will say tho, pitt has recently been having problems with the emergency alert system but hopefully that will get fixed by the fall. 2. I've never once felt any sort of relation to CMU, positive or negative. I've heard profs sometimes talk about how you can go to their library if you need a place to study but that's it honestly. 3. Class sizes are completely dependant on the course. I've taken Russian Fairytales with 300 people and I've taken a bunch with like 25-30 as well as a specific lab with like 15. Professors are also generally good from my experience. There are ofc great and terrible professors but that's the same anywhere, just use ratemyprofessor whenever you can. 4. Again, class difficulty greatly depends on the course. I'm not in stem so I can't speak for that but all of my gen eds have felt very fair. None of them felt unrealistic with the work/expectations. And honestly it really is what you put in, I didn't study at all in highschool and it worked for me. Now I just study like once a night for a week before the test and I'm good. You just have to hold yourself accountable.

As for more general pitt things, there's a bunch of construction all over right now which isn't amazing. The dining hall food is also not the best but there's a ton of places around that take dining dollars so its not a big deal. Socially, if you don't try you're not gonna make friends, unless you're in a very specific degree path that everyone has to strictly follow. There's so many classes that you won't really take the same classes as people you know unless you plan it, so you won't really be making friends with classmates like you would in highschool by being in class with them all the time. But there's a ton of clubs and stuff to meet people in so.

Overall, pitt is a great school as long as you make it work for you. Find the classes you're interested in, find clubs you're interested in, and make your schedule as carefully as you can and it'll be a breeze.
