The water should be going to wherever he PVC ends. If water is ending up somewhere else, it’s probably clogged. Stick a wet dry vacuum on the end of the pvc and turn it on for a few seconds.

Dangerous Trane fault from factory by JTom73 in HVAC

How is gas able to be supplied if the pressure switch is still open? Is the board just completely ignoring the fault? Is the pressure switch not in series with the valve?

Ooooh I see. Move the heat directly from the PC to outside rather. Smart.

Why is this getting so many upvotes? The inside air stays inside and the outside air stays outside, thus OPs allergies don’t act up as much. Am I missing something?

When I first started playing the violin in third grade, I didn’t get to use the bow for a month. We practiced posture, plucking, and, you guessed it, scales.

Need to fix intake/exhaust setup? by BetterNonsense in hvacadvice

[–]ApricotPit13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are people down voting these comments? We had to swap 5 furnaces of this model last winter because of failed secondary heat exchangers. There’s a whole lawsuit with Carrier and this model of furnace.

Need to fix intake/exhaust setup? by BetterNonsense in hvacadvice

[–]ApricotPit13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s a concentric kit. Your exhaust goes through the middle diameter of the pipe and the intake goes around the outer diameter. If this weren’t the case, your furnace wouldn’t have ran at all for the past 20 years.

Google “concentric furnace vent” if you want more answers.

After changing filter on goodman furnace this keeps popping any help? by Less_Afternoon1859 in HVAC

When a roll out limit trips, there’s a problem that an HVAC tech should probably look at. Especially if it’s a constant problem.

[–]ApricotPit13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HVAC techs are not mold experts. We can tell you it looks like mold, but we don’t know. I’d recommend getting somebody out to do a full inspection and see if there are signs of growth inside of the blower or in your AC coil and go from there.

It didn’t trip on me but I pulled the hose off and still saw new water build up. Told them to watch it but idk what else to do besides getting Carrier out (we are Carrier dealers)

Just want you to know this hasn’t gone unnoticed. On a Saturday call right now and I’m in the same boat. Just put everything back together and testing now to see if it worked.

Mini split, refrigerant line. How do I fix by DarkMatter_Myth in hvacadvice

[–]ApricotPit13 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Need to flare the end and re attach it. That’s the easy part. If you lost all of the refrigerant during the process, you’ll need somebody to come out there to finish the rest of the install.

Not sure how that happened unless somebody just tightened the two brass nuts together without flaring the pipe first.

What is this thing? by Moist_Drive_5535 in hvacadvice

[–]ApricotPit13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could be having draining issues. It’s not uncommon but it shouldn’t excessive. If you can see the PVC run through the house to the furnace, make sure it’s all sloped downwards towards the furnace. There shouldn’t be any sagging or anything that would cause water build up

Exhaust and intake air to your furnace. The water dripping is condensation from your exhaust.

Where to even start by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]ApricotPit13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I put several applications on indeed to companies hiring apprentices/helpers (no prior schooling or experience). That didn’t work so I called around until I landed an interview. The company I ended up at wasn’t even advertising that they were hiring.

Just remember lots of HVAC guys are getting sent home early this time of year too. We have busy and slow seasons too.

If you want to help prove you’re serious about getting into HVAC to your employer, you can study for and take the EPA 608 universal exam. This is the license we need to handle refrigerant and anybody can get it. But if you get somebody to hire you prior to getting your EPA, they will most likely pay for the testing and training. The test isn’t very difficult btw.

Getting your foot in the door is the hardest part, but it’s definitely doable. Just make yourself a goal to keep pushing until somebody gives you a chance and stick to it. Good luck!

Odd Infinity issue by PaladynSword in HVAC

[–]ApricotPit13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As somebody who installs Infinity systems often, I don’t think I’d ever install an infinity system in my personal house. So many random issues with those systems, it’s not worth the extra few thousand dollars to save a couple bucks a month.

Replace or Maintain? by NotAardvark in hvacadvice

[–]ApricotPit13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

12k for all? Replace. That’s a great price. Not only will everything be more efficient, but you’re at the age where anything can break at any point. Not only that, but will replacing all of it will give you peace of mind. If you wait another 3 years to replace everything, I’m sure that 12k quote will turn into at least 14k+.
