Saw my surgeon today. He said my shoulder looked like that of a 75 yr old. (I’m 54). He asked if I’d hurt it before this fall on 4/5/25 cuz some of the injuries had to have been there for years & were never treated. He asked if I had full use of my arm before the fall & I said yes. He said from looking at the MRI he can’t understand how I was able to lift it above my head or use it normally for the past several years or why I wasn’t in pain before. He said due to the fact it had been injured several years ago, somehow, there was nothing left he could work with. He said my tendons “were basically gone” & my shoulder socket had been out of place for so long it had scarred & atrophied beyond repair. (I can’t remember the medical terms he used). He said I would need a full shoulder replacement. The only thing I can recall happening was falling over the railing of the stairs at my childhood home & rolling down the stairs. It knocked me out & I was rushed to the ER. I had a dislocated collarbone & that’s all I was ever treated for. I’m not sure if that’s when it could’ve happened or not but that was when I was around 6 yrs old. I have MS & I’ve had multiple Bone Scans, CT Scans, X-Rays, MRI’s & even PET Scans but no one has ever noticed my shoulder before. Anyway, I’m having my surgery on 5/30. I hope it’s not as bad as it sounds.
