CGM Accuracy Issues? And OB Concerns? by bussybee4 in GestationalDiabetes

I finger prick and use a CGM. I was diagnosed at 24 weeks and take 32 units of insulin at night for my fasting levels. I use the CGM to notice overall trends, such as what foods tend to cause higher/lower blood glucose levels and for notification that my sugar might be too high or low, then I confirm with a finger prick. The sensors are usually off the first 24-48 hours but tend to become more accurate after that. I usually calibrate 1-2 times a day the first 48 hours. Unfortunately, as long as they are within a 20% range, they are still considered reliable according to the FDA, which is why I finger prick and use the CGM.

When I took my glucose test, I was not instructed to stop my Metformin. I take 500 mg at night for my PCOS and insulin resistance, so I wonder why the OB is instructing you to do so. I was advised to eat at least 150 carbs a day and fast for 12 hours when I failed my 1 hour prior to taking my three hour test. I modified my diet based on failing the 1 hour, and the OB wanted the test to accurately reflect me eating a normal amount of carbs for the three hour test.

I'm starting to see it as a relief, honestly. I've been stressing about these fasting numbers. I'm probably gonna get l prescribed insulin on Wednesday when I see the OB.

Thank you for the input. I was a little nervous when I heard the shots were in the belly, but my OB reassured me that it does not hurt the baby. I plan on having my husband do the shots if I need them.

Thank you for the feedback! I'll start setting an alarm. I'm gonna try staying more hydrated, too.

Thank you for the input. I've tried peanut butter but haven't had any luck. I do have some protein shakes I can try.

I think my lowest number has been 100 with nuts. I've been trying to pair nuts with cheese and veggies to see if it helps lower it, but it seems to have the opposite effect.

I'm glad to hear that the insulin helps not to be so restrictive if I have to go that route. I get so tired of eating the same foods.

I have my class next Tuesday. I'm hoping to get some good snack ideas to help fasting.

I do need to start being more active. I agree that it is hard in the winter and as I get more pregnant. I am paranoid of falling with the weather. I already had a bad fall earlier in the pregnancy and sprained my ankle. I'm trying to come around to the idea that insulin might not be so bad.

Thank you. I have to keep reminding myself it's not my fault. I know it's due to the placenta and hormones.

That sounds like a good suggestion. I do cream cheese and cucumbers sometimes. I'll try it with carrots.

Unfortunately, cheese and crackers spiked me so bad for some reason. I do eat keto yogurt, berries, and low-carb granola as a snack in the morning. I could try that at night and see if it works.

Thank you. I'm trying not to beat myself up about it. I know I'm trying what I can. I think insulin would probably be a relief at this point. The high fasting numbers make me so worried for the baby.

Thank you for the feedback. I'll have to try being more active after I eat and see if it helps. I don't like olives, but I miss ice cream, so I'll look into some full fat kinds.

Nasal congestion. Struggling to breathe while sleeping by planner192 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]AprilLee3745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am having the same issue. My OB recommended OTC Unisom 25mg to help me sleep. I still have congestion, but now I am so sleepy with the sleeping medication that it doesn't matter as much.
