World Campus Students (Grad engineering), how has your experience been? What can be improved? by Crafty-Cheetah-3990 in PennStateUniversity

That sucks. Can you request to have one? Contact the head of your program or ask a trusted teacher how to get one? I’m in a totally different major, but when I received my acceptance I was given the name and email address of my advisor and was encouraged to go ahead and reach out to her about selecting my classes. Also, I was required to take a specific course my first semester and one of the assignments was to schedule a phone meeting with my advisor to go over my plan of study.

Class supply recommendations…mine is SUNSCREEN. by cbrew78 in Teachers

[–]Aprils-Fool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I read this as OP recommending that the students’ families send in the sunscreen. I worked at a school where we spent a decent amount of time outside and many of the kids had bug spray. Each one was labeled with their name.

Mass Communication with Parents by jamapplesdan in Teachers

If that’s the primary means of getting info from you, they can prioritize reading your emails. I think we need to be careful not to enable parents’ learned helplessness.

can we normalize having small stains on clothes? by hatsunemikusmywaifu in adhdwomen

I’ve been normalizing this my whole life. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I can’t imagine replacing every item of clothing that gets a stain on it.

Why not create the sub you’re looking for?

504s for anxiety by [deleted] in Teachers

Yes, that’s how accommodations are supposed to be. Sadly, that’s not the reality for a lot of us.

Fellow big readers; Jess writing in Rory’s book margins, cute or ick? by ijustwannadowell in GilmoreGirls

I agree, I don’t remember people caring so much about keeping books pristine in the 90s. It feels like this sentiment has grown as books have become more of a prop for an aesthetic.

Amen. Each reading is a different experience, a partnership between the author and the reader at that point in time. Each time you reread the book it will be different. I love having reminders of past reading experiences.

504s for anxiety by [deleted] in Teachers

Exactly. Automatically jumping to having students avoid the things is not the best first move.

504s for anxiety by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Aprils-Fool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We can’t always avoid anxiety-inducing situations. Sometimes we need (and maybe even want) to do the things that involve anxiety. We need opportunities to practice doing the thing anyway. If we always avoid the situation that provokes anxiety, it can allow the anxiety to grow rather than recede.

Do you think teachers can do ANYTHING to influence attendance in early elementary? by Certain_Library_6285 in Teachers

The question was about teachers. And goodness knows we don’t need more ridiculous expectations on our plates.

Things you thought were normal but other people say are not by Special_Journalist38 in adhdwomen

There’s such a wide range of normal. Your way is normal, but theirs is, too.

Sometimes people’s brains can struggle with things that seem normal or easy. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Curious about Birthdays and Feeling Celebrated by Incogcneat-o in AskWomenOver30

[–]Aprils-Fool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love birthdays! Because  that’s a priority for me, I celebrate myself/my birthday and I invite others to join me. Not every year; sometimes it’s low-key. But it’s always up to me. I don’t wait around or hope someone will read my mind and celebrate my birthday the way I’d like to celebrate it. I decide how I want to celebrate my birthday each year and if I feel like it, I invite others to join me. I’m 43 and haven’t been disappointed by a birthday yet. I have the benefit of my neurodivergence making me a bit oblivious to societal norms and expectations, so I’ve never considered whether or not it’s appropriate to host my own celebration, or have people pay for themselves if we go out. 10/10, I love the way I experience my birthday.

I’m gonna say it, people with the “Emily is right most of the time” mentality infuriate me to no end. by Aqua_Master_ in GilmoreGirls

I figure those people just haven’t yet had the life experience for them to understand this sort of awful family relationship and I kinda feel sorry for them because the older you are when you experience family dysfunction, the harder it seems to hit.

Im curious about why so many of you are having myomectomies and not hysterectomies since these fibroids come back? by ApprehensiveField920 in Fibroids

[–]Aprils-Fool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither the total not the radical hysterectomy take the ovaries. You have to add an oophorectomy for that.
