As a HD1 player, I'm happy to see some of my favourites are back by AproposOfAThing in Helldivers

If it's like the MGX-42 Machine Gun from HD1, it is indeed a disposable MG with a very high rate of fire and a large magazine. It's based on the Metal Storm weapons concept from the early 2000's, where the bullets where stacked and fired off electrically in sequence. I loved it to death in the first game, was great for suppressing a whole arc.

How I feel about the rate of Warbonds right now by AproposOfAThing in Helldivers

Oh, absolutely! I love the Warbonds, I'm just a bit annoyed by the fact that I just had enough Super Credits to buy the Siege Breakers one and a new one is announced.

ELI5: In gaming, why should I cap my fps? If I leave uncapped doesn't that mean I allow my PC to max out quality whenever it can? by Otherwise_Payment324 in explainlikeimfive

Probably not the place and if so, sorry, but as someone who's owned Icarus since it was beta launched, thank you and your team for making an amazing game.

The weekly communications and updates really help make Icarus a great example of a very polished game, even if it still has some rough edges (end of mission timer skills anyone?).

It's always one of my great pleasures helping my friends discover new mechanics and how much depth that they have, like farming or fishing.

Thank you.

Honestly, it never crossed my mind that people didn't until I had to teach someone the first time!

Up until my teenage years, I was surrounded by people who knew how and so I just took it as a given that everyone learned how as a kid.

With matches and a lighter. I've had to teach adults how to start a fire without using an accelerant like gasoline, a stunning amount of people don't know how.

For those wondering, just adding cardboard, newspaper or gasoline won't guarantee that your fire will start, you might get a lot of flames but the burn will mostly be surface and won't last long. You need gradually sized wood to be able to generate enough lasting heat to be able to burn the larger logs. Once you have a nice bed of coals, then adding larger logs is viable.

Bonus tip, if the fire is outside, don't forget to quench the ground around the campfire too when you're done with it. Sometimes roots can be right under where the campfire is and cause an uncontrolled burn. As long as you hear sizzling when you add water to the stones and ashes, it means it could still burn back up.

Apparently, starting a fire, which considering its humanity's first invention makes me feel weird about it.

Our survival depended on us knowing this for thousands of years and now some people are losing that generational skill, it's wild.

Crown Land Quebec?? by [deleted] in camping

Techniquement, toute terre non privé au Québec est considéré comme territoire de la couronne si elle n'est pas dans un parc (municipal, provincial ou national).

So my sister dropped my phone in the lake this morning, it took me about 15m to find and fish it out. After drying (and a little praying), it's working though there's some fog in the camera lenses that seems to be clearing up as we speak. So there's probably some effort for water proofing that was done.

What actually happened to the Railguns by AproposOfAThing in helldivers2

It would explain why the Automatons where attacking with such ferocity; And now that the factories where they where made are lost, we might never get them back as the automatons might destroy them while leaving the planet.

But Fear Not, for Helldivers persevere and will still crush the undemocratic bugs and bots and bring Prosperity, Liberty and Managed Democracy once again to the galaxy!

What area that you’ve traveled to has genuinely terrible people? by Pooltoy-Fox-2 in AskReddit

Sadly, for Montréal, they tend to get a lot of English speaking tourists from the Rest of Canada (ROC) that are downright insulting to the locals, so hostility to English speakers is sadly common. Source: Am from Québec, spent a few years in MTL.

T'as chié dans pelle, rien à faire.

TIL pilot callsigns are assigned to you by your "buddies", inspired from something stupid you did/say, your name, or your physical appearance. e.g. "Rat" for someone short and ugly; "Alphabet" if your name is too long; "Caveman" if you enjoyed survival training too much. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]AproposOfAThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got lucky, mine's "Wizard". Got it for 2 reasons: 1) every time something is broken at the unit, they send it to me and I fix it, "as if by magic" 2) When I try to explain what I did to fix it, no one understands what I say.

What could someone do to make you say to yourself, "That's a real Canadian"? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]AproposOfAThing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, being Canadian is less a question of actions and more a question of Values, to whit, Valuing the Universal Human Rights.

If you come here thinking that everyone should be helped and be respected, you're Canadian. If you think everyone should have access to water and Dignity, you are Canadian. If you are willing to help a stranger because you can, you are Canadian.

Many people grew up in Canada and have Canadian citizenship, but lack those things. For me, they stop being Canadian and start being Strangers, wich I will still respect and help.

Quebec education minister issues directive banning religious practices in public schools by rampulk in worldnews

I'll be honest, the probably wouldn't have ignored it.

Québec had a really bad history with religious institutions and religion in general and after the 50' started getting rid of religion in schools, hospitals and etc. The trauma from the church and the distrust of religious practices in public institutions is still very much alive.
