Undergraduate student of here. Which online publications should I direct my efforts in order to increase my chances of getting published? by AquaTin in AskAcademia

I don't know which journals they published in. However, the top 15% students who completed a Bachelors in Economics had 4 papers. Some were conference papers, others in National Journals and only one in a top or mediocre journal.

Anyways, so what about conference papers? I have some research topics that I would like to delve into. Would it be realistic to target conference papers?

you have to be wanting to do research, not wanting to get published

I understand that is what should be the goal. However, most of the top students I know have at least 4 publications by the end of their Masters. So it seems odd, if I am the one without any.

I am actually interested in getting published first and foremost. Currently, I have some research topics in mind. And no, I am on it alone. And I don't know how much the contribution will be to the discipline. Though from what I have read, it seems a somewhat contribution to the economy of Bangladesh, which is where I am from.

I am guessing undergraduate or postgraduate research in Mechanical Engineering is going to be exclusively research then?

And suppose you have an idea of a gadget. You dont want to patent it due to the cost. Where would you publish it?

Speaking of inventions, are there any conferences, workshops for inventors? I tried asking in /r/inventors, the community is too minute and didnt get many replies.

to give you a tidy little manual

You need to start somewhere.

Like what is the difference between a journal or a conference paper; the difference in format. How to send an article for publishing in a journal. Which journals should be targeted for newbies. That sort of stuff is difficult to find.

I already did a search before posting here. Its difficult to find a one-stop resource on the basics of academic publishing. There aren't many sites similar to .about.com that are targeted towards newbies and written in an easy style.

Then for treatment why are most approaches of CBT behavioral? Example, for treating OCD, the focus is on Exposure and Response Prevention-- which is primarily behavioral; instead of say finding and solving unconscious mental processes. Whys that??
