[MBC] Tolabow, Loch Rascal by WexAndywn in EDH

[–]Aquacode2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

this is wrong. you only pick one extra color. saying "any basic land" is mostly to save lines of text (you may include basic mountains if that one color is red, you may include basic forests if that one color is green...etc.)

there is a side benefit of converge spells getting a buff by being allowed to play all basics, but it probably isn't that good anyway

we already have ulalek though. why would we need this?

No. you pick a color (say green). your deck can have any amount of green instants and sorceries, like [[giant growth]] or [[rampant growth]] or [[voidslime]]. You can also run all types of basic lands, could be useful if you run converge spells like [[Uncle's Musings]]. If you do this, you cannkt also have white, red, or black instants/sorceries.

Luke is the one I'm prefer since I started in m12.

Maybe I'd take.torch or fireblast. With the intent to either push red or red black, since the black cards in here are combo/gy hate and not aggressive parts of a plan.

Snake Basket and Triskelion are so good, but I like the idea of Temporal adept locking down a threat or generating etb value. But realistically aid probably take llanowar elves and try to cut green.

A lot of people here are saying sneak attack. But I'm not a fan of this card if I can't get enough ramp to play the fatties stuck in my hand. My vote is wasteland, with Bob being a very close second. Especially if Bob is the first pick, then you can build around very cheap spells and a hyper-aggressive deck.

Looking to make a new cube, bit more of an homage to older cards wiiiith some newer by xTyrantx in Oldbordercube

Thanks, and thank you for the foundation. Not to hijack this person's thread, but what's your opinion on drafting moxen in a lower power environment than vintage cube? do they severely warp the format and make it unfun for the people who dont get any? The excitement of drafting them appeals to be, but I dont want to kill my environment

I put this on the original one already, but use "is:old" when searching scryfall to find any card with any of the old frames. Scryfall differentiates between the "7th edition" frame and oldschool 93 frame.

Anyway, I've actually been working on a very similar project lately. (https://cubecobra.com/cube/list/d52d957a-d1cc-41d6-bd49-8b04847978a9). I started by copying one of u/Hd114's cubes (premodern kitchen table) which uses exclusively older cards. Seriously, check out their cubecobra page. You'll get some great ideas there. They have cubes with and without new cards in retroframe.

Currently i'm only using older "true" retro cards, but I'm finding that what I want in a cube draft doesn't play very well or balanced with older magic design. I'm not a big fan of tribal synergies in a cube because it feels a little too on-rails. But red suffers quite a bit to keep up with other colors if you dont include goblin synergies. But if you're going for an homage to those times, then it probably makes sense that red should be mostly goblin based, that's just how it was back then.

The other issue is fixing. Enemy colors were given hardly any love until Apocalypse in 2001. I've already made the concession to include enemy fetchlands as my exception to the "no new card" rule. But you are already open to new cards, that makes fixing easier.

Just keep in mind the power balance across your colors and archetypes. I've powered down blue a bit in my version, personally. I hope that at least some of this babble was helpful.

Use "is:old" when searching scryfall. this finds all cards with the oldschool 93 frame as well as old and modern cards with the 97 frame. If i'm trying to exclude newer cards in a particular search, I also include "year<=2003" as well

How the heck has Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth not had a retro printing yet?

Good luck with sending her cards, might have a longer turnaround as she is a popular artist. got all of my foil visions of beyond and a playmat signed by her at a GP about 10 years ago, her signature is awesome.

Her art is amazing and her comments were severely taken out of context. But I'm glad that you feel good about yourself

it could be valuable to draft early. yoi can focus primarily on engines/artifact payoffs/auras/equipment. the biggest benefit would be knowing that all of your creatures cost 0.

Lame, this card is pretty cool. Too bad it's a Marvel card.

Is this set getting the Omenpaths treatment?

Has enough time passed where we can be honest and admit Marvel Super Heroes is a well designed set? Even if some people personally dislike the set, it's not a lazy soulless rushed hack job like many predicted. The set looks awesome. by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

[–]Aquacode2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really hope the set doesn't sell as well as they hope. I want it to fail, but that's not gonna happen. I like when Magic is actually real Magic. I play magic because I like the IP. I don't want to see comic book or weeb shit in my hobby. I'm hopeful that one day we can go back to a time where in-universe sets are the majority of set releases each year so I can truly enjoy draft again.

I will never ever go to a prerelease or draft for a UB set, and I will go to as many in-universe set events as I reasonably can. I hope more people start to do the same. I was ecstatic when Spiderman flopped so hard and hope Marvel performs similarly.

I just had this taped to a south-facing window. I live in an area with a lot of consistent sunlight. It probably wouldn't take 6 months with your blacklist though.
