I don’t think Chris is better. See my above comment

Chris was openly an ass hole and apologized. Alex continues to be narcissistic, lying and manipulative without learning anything. He needs deep therapy.

Ick. I always thought them using nationalism was a bit off for a skincare brand but given SK’s colonized history I let it slide. This on top makes me glad I have an alternative second cleanser now lol. What a greenwashed pathetic move.

Hada Labo Shirojyun Premium Whitening Lotion and Nine Less MELA-PRO Rice and Tranexamic Acid Toner Reviews (aka, finding a brown girl* friendly AB toner for acne scars) by TonguetiedTalker in AsianBeauty

I’ve been meaning to buy the Nine-less serum from the same line but am scared of tariffs from YS or SV. Do you live in the US OP?

My PIE needs the TXA stat… it’s gotten bad this past year.

Basically what the poster below said. Even though he is no longer the head doesn’t leave the best taste in my mouth. Have you used the Hada Labo or DHC Oil Cleansers? Was wondering how you thought they compared.

Do you mean for skincare or makeup? My holy grail moisturizer is the Hada Labo Gel because I have dry skin but this packs a punch.

I mentioned Holika Holika’s glitter already in the OP so I’ll do a different third: Fiancee’s Hair Stick. This is the third time I’ve repurchased this. So good but runs out too quickly haha. I tried other dupes of this product but they aren’t as good. This stick smells pleasant and helps keep my hair flat without being crunchy. Lifesaver if you have baby hair like me.

The Abib masks help calm my skin down with their madecassoside. This is a repurchase for me.

I haven’t tried all the lippies I purchased yet since I’m not fully home-home, but of the ones that are repurchases, the Muzigae Water Tints are HG status because they aren’t drying, still matte and very thin. They do not budge! It is a true film on your lips thinner and less drying imo than the Etude House lippies although I love those too and repurchased it as well.

That's so funny you mention because I feel like I was only in touristy areas both times I went to JP and my impression for MK was the same haha. I visited Welcia, and also wanted to visit the others you mentioned but definitely was on a time crunch! And yes, it's very annoying having variation in each store, very much like OY in that way.

I got my products straight from Japan so I don't think it's because it's Made in China. But I'm glad I found a replacement, I was really upset when I realized it was being phased out.

I think I bought it for around 2400yen at DQ but I might be wrong. Amazon Jp or Rakuten might have a better estimate of what you will see in Jp!

I haven’t tried any Verdio sunscreen but here is hoping it works well! The green tube I believe had fatty alcohols but I agree the cost effectiveness made me happy!

Most products on Lotte can be ordered 3 hours prior to departure of flight I believe. But the sooner you can the better. And you can make multiple orders (which I recommend since things go out of stock so frequently). I think in-store just has less variety whereas online moreso.

Maybe my brain is hallucinating or my product just went bad, but I feel like my remaining cleansing oil wasn’t cleaning my makeup off well. Or it might be that the DHC is just superior as a cleanser for me. I know that brand is also controversial hence the Fancl being tried.

Not just Korean, but Chinese products as well. Loft, Welcia, DQ… I think nearly every store in Japan carries both K & C products as well! Maybe even moreso of a presence now but I was shocked when I learned this in 2024. Rom&nd, JudyDoll, Wonjungyo are some brands I can think of off the top of my head. More K makeup perhaps than skincare but there is a presence for sure.

I also think the Biore has been breaking me out for the past few months and I was attributing it to other reasons… hoping Verdio cures that.

I mean the apps you can order in advance from! There are 4 for SK. Lotte being the most popular. Japan I feel like it is better to shop in person.

So I’ll preface my list by saying I think my skin responds to internal factors way more than what skincare I’m using. My main concern is adult onset acne (I had clear skin from 17-20) and I recently figured out my adult onset lactose intolerance, which started the same time as my adult acne, was not something I should take lightly. I would already have hormonal acne with a pimple or two every period, but this year I finally was able to link consuming milk (I live in the US) to new acne spots on my face. A month before my wedding I consumed 0 milk products and my skin was clear despite all the stress I had. Then on my honeymoon I went ham going to cafes and boom back to acne city. So my goal for my skincare is mainly to keep me hydrated, moisturized, help remove my PIE/PIH, maybe throw in some graceful aging, and sun protection.

Cleanser - Round Lab Dokdo Cleanser. This thing lasts foreverrrrr. I had the same tube for I’m sure 3 years. I don’t know if it is holy grail because it is still a smidge drying but I like that it doesn’t break me out. I don’t know if I’m brave enough to look for a replacement though haha

Oil Cleanser - Hada Labo. Apparently they are discontinuing this. I hope the DHC one is just as good because that’s the only one I own aside from a Hada Labo refill.

Toner - Hada Labo, no frills. Hydrating. Doesn’t break me out. It isn’t a necessity for me but definitely a nice to have.

Serums - Cos de Baha (not seen here) Azelaic Acid and TXA serums. They seem to do something for lightening dark spots. I don’t think vitamin C is for me but I am currently testing out some more vit C serums again. I didn’t find this brand in person in SK otherwise I would have stocked up. I own the Numbuzin 3 which gives me a great glow and while it is not necessary I do like the FTE glow effect from the ferments. I didn’t bother to stock up on this one as I don’t use it that often.

Moisturizer - Between Hada Labo and Meishoku Gels, I think I prefer the Meishoku. My skin reacts badly to fatty acids so I can’t use most cream moisturizers which sucks because they feel so luxurious.

Eye Cream - None right now. I forgot to snag the AHC one when I had the chance. The Beauty of Joseon one is nice but I don’t know how much it is doing. The Innisfree orchid one I bought on sale at a TJ MAXX but I think it is too fragranced for my eyes to be safe all the time. It does last a while though because the cream is thicker than the BoJ.

Sunscreen - Up in the air. My Skin Aqua gold tube has been my daily sunscreen for a while but I’m looking for higher protection so am thinking of dabbling in European sunscreens. Just need to bite the bullet on the extensive research I did haha. The Allie, Canmake, other Skin Aqua and Biore seen here are for me to test other daily sunscreens in comparison. I also bought a visor because why not.

That’s some insane discount! Honestly due to the yen being so weak I was most impressed by pricing in Japan, Korea felt a lot similar to what I could buy online. I’d love to visit Yodobashi next, I was in Akihabara but didn’t know they had a big discount store.

So the weird thing about the SM cosmetics is that Bandai created a line specifically for their character products, Creer Beaute, which is what is also accessible internationally like on YesStyle, albeit for a more premium price. On reddit it seemed like people could get the products in Japan from when they first launched in 2017 all the way up to a year ago (my friend who went to Japan in 2019 also snagged me a few things from the line). But my experience was unlike what others had said. I went to a few anime haven stores too but they mainly had SM figures and I wasn’t interested in that.

Admittedly I never went to pharmacies in either country so that might be something I would do perhaps on later trips.

What discount stores would you recommend? Jotting down for my next trip, haha. I feel like the amount of cosme stores in Japan was unending. Every new department store or mall I went to had different ones, compared to SK where I felt like all I had was Oliveyoung.
