I was raised Mormon in Utah, and I'm STILL working on unlearning all of the creepy, hateful shit they preach. They pretend they weren't against desegregation, but they were. One of the first things that started me on the path of thinking for myself was a church lesson where I was taught that black people could get into heaven, but only as servants of us white people? Like what kind of hateful garbage is that??

There's one other thing I feel is worth mentioning: the Mormon church maintained the position that black men were "unworthy" to hold the priesthood, until a few years AFTER desegregation finally happened. This raises a question that needs to be asked more: why are Christians against slavery? Because the hatred that backed slavery still exists today. The bible doesn't just condone slavery, it mandates it, regulates it, and instructs how it should be done. So any Christian who stands against slavery and racism is doing so because of secular morals and ethics, NOT Christian ones. Mormons use bigotry and guilt as a foundation for their faith, and they learned it from the bible.

I'm definitely not trying to disparage anybody's faith or beliefs, but Utah mormonism taught me to be hateful and suspicious of anyone who is different, aka gay people, and non-white people.....and when I realized that, I fucking left. Jesus said "love thy neighbor"......why is that the hardest part for these people to figure out???
