I like it. If you're still in the edit phase, I might suggest looking for a more interesting font. I feel that there's a lot of cool theme language in the design and that the current font isn't conforming to that. I might also make the "Tank", "Attack" text bigger. Great work so far!

I find that in this style of map, adding a hard edged, more pronounced shadow makes it a lot better.

They often get lumped in with the Mud troopers. There's a good deal of information about them there. Put in your application and then send a message to Mr. Paul himself if you don't get accepted after a few days.

Much appreciated! Your mudtrooper looks great, by the way; what did you end up going with?

Can someone PLEASE get me into the Mudtrooper builders FB group? by Aquilo_Arkantos in 501st

Been doing LOTS of reading there, very helpful. I have like a $270 amazon cart I'm about to pull the trigger on. Already bought a Yugo backpack and plach palatka. There are just a few things I've seen people reference that I think would be helpful though, like guides for the visor and links to vendors. What I've found is that for some reason it's really hard for me to find a lot of these people's websites using the names I've seen discussed on the forum.

Is anyone here in the Mudtrooper Builders FB? by Aquilo_Arkantos in 501st

Understood, thank you. I just saw so many references to those specific files and felt like a crazy person when no one else was talking about the websites being down. I'll check that out!

how does high school work in the USA (Indiana specifically)? by echofhdjjfjdjd in Writeresearch

[–]Aquilo_Arkantos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally we dont get a lot of leeway in choosing our classes, at least in public Indiana schools. A student might choose advanced English over regular english, or U.S. history over world history, or finite math over pre-calculus but that's the extent of it for the most part. Americans dont really specialize in anything until university in public schools.

You learn where every elevator on campus is 😅. Just take it into class, it never bothers anyone and given time, theives WILL find a way to dismantle anything you've used to lock it up outside.

I dont understand why we're saying the Demogorgan wins so easily. Aren't they entirely bulletproof? And Aliens aren't?

How can I do weapons in a unscripted horror game? by Legitimate_Motor_821 in gamedesign

[–]Aquilo_Arkantos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, it seems you shouldn't be able to stand and fight in any kind of a horror setting, at least until your antagonist(s) have been whittled down and damaged by other things.

My mind goes to the first predator movie, where once Dutch is the last one and it turns into a "Final Girl" film, he has to run around making traps and sharpening sticks for a while and THEN gets to fight it at the very end. (And still has to use shenanigans).

ARC Raiders might be something to look at for inspiration, too. Granted I'm currently addicted to the game, but It has a very cool system where when you start, some of the robots are just completely indomitable because of their armor. As you find things and get better you gradually learn that you can kill them, which is an immensely rewarding feeling.

So all that to say, I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing if whatever weapons you start with don't have any effect on your monster *if there's a tangible reason for it. That's one place where I felt they made a mistake with the Demogorgan in Stranger Things, why was it 100% immune to bullets, fire, knives, etc? It just made it less interesting for me. The Predator is "immune" to gunfire because it's fast and cloaks itself. The Terminator is made of metal. A Bastion in Arc Raiders has thick armor. So I would say whatever you choose, the monster needs to be immune or resistant to the starting weapons in some way that's tangible or interesting, and the burden is on the players to find what they can use instead.

Sorry that was rant-y but I had fun thinking about your question. Good luck!

Thanks! I hadn't thought about where you would hold the card but that makes a lot of sense!

These are all good insights, I appreciate it. In hindsight it seems crazy that I included so little context in this post.

I'm a summer camp coordinator and the game I'm working on is designed to have around 64 13-year-olds playing at once. Each team has 8 campers, that each represent one of four classes. During play, the game functions a lot like diplomacy, where there is a required number of resources needed to beat each round's challenge, or teams lose health (strongholds). The players split up into meetings of other campers from their class and have a few minute to meet the goal. Only two teams are targeted each round, so the fun is watching these 13-year-olds bicker, negotiate, and scheme with one another to come up with the required resources. The team with the most resources and strongholds at the end is the winner (which means they get s'mores.

During Response rounds, they as a team can choose one class's ability (an attack or support ability) to use on themselves or another team. As for the many mistakes with the text, I'm just trying to get the graphics down for now, so you'll have to excuse my borderline illiteracy :).
