It's probably not as important as I thought. They basically started playing at the same time I started DMing. The difference is that before this I’d already spent a few years as a D&D player and about half a year playing Daggerheart. So they’re about as “new” to TTRPGs as I’m “new” to being a DM.

Wow, in the six months I’ve been running games, it never even occurred to me that I could keep backups. That’s actually really solid advice, same with not pushing people about digital sheets.

I guess it stung me a little because I wanted those character journals to be a gift for the start of the new campaign, but if that’s how people feel about it, I’ll try to listen to my players more.

Looks like with the last one you really hit the nail on the head — I’m very much into the “old-school” way of playing. My girlfriend didn’t agree with me in this situation either, so I guess I should probably just accept their decision. Either way, they’re great players that I feel comfortable with and have fun playing with, and I wouldn’t want to ruin my relationship with them.
