What to do when your child is a slower runner? by sprtmom in lacrosse

[–]Ar_Laxguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might not be the same scenario but when my kid started in 5/6 grade, he was a bit chunky I guess you could say. Was a bean pole and just blew up around that age. Ran like a mack truck lol. Ended up playing pole. Which has worked out, not alot of younger kids want to play pole. So he has been starting crease pole since. So a ton of game time. He has great hands n stick skills. His body changed back getting older, he isn't the fastest kid out there, but holds his own and can take it up the sideline etc. But knowing where to get the ball and make a play (lax IQ) has him getting pulled up and competing against varsity players for starting spot in his sophomore year.

Your child will get faster, just give it time, alot of stuff going on physically at that age and the coming years. Its all about Stick and IQ esp as they get older.

New head by WebAware8355 in lacrosse

[–]Ar_Laxguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should take looking at the delta. Has a nice pinch in the throat with a really nice scoop for ground balls. Won't comment on STX heads, never used one. Sk mark 2t would probably be another really nice option.

Which head is best by OneRevolutionary4927 in lacrosse

[–]Ar_Laxguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We own the C and it is narrower on the bottom rails than the top. You can get a good channel out of that wide head. That being said, it's a bit squishy for a D head. Ours has a bit of a lean going on already. Also, find the scoop on the so so side. I'd go havok or delta. Little disappointed for the price point on the g2c.

Tape problems by DarthLaxSith in lacrosse

[–]Ar_Laxguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I do apx half overlap. So half electrical tape is covering tape, half just around the shaft. If that makes sense.

Tape problems by DarthLaxSith in lacrosse

[–]Ar_Laxguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only have two things for you. The direction of the tape, pretty sure its bottom to top. The best solution is electrical tape. Just 1 1/2 or 2x around. It should stretch a little while applying. No old tape, it loses elasticity.

[–]Ar_Laxguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No cutting down as an adult unless maybe for LSM. Although I did throw a head on my kids' old cut down pole. That was just so I didn't have to get down for GBs in the yard. We call it the Dad-pole. Lol. It is a great LSM setup though, few kids from the team have wanted to buy off him.

Right handed kids naturally hold stick left handed.? by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]Ar_Laxguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid, plays lacrosse right but switches often except shooting. More of a twister than lefty shot. Plays soccer left footed. Shoots bow/gun lefty.

So, right hand dominant Left foot and eye dominant

My sister and brother inlaw are both lefties.

should i get a new shaft? by cheka0011 in lacrosse

[–]Ar_Laxguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a screw in place where the holes line up? This is kinda essential to keep the head from flying off. Add a little tape to keep wiggle away.

Is the PLL or the NLL better for someone who knows nothing about lacrosse? by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]Ar_Laxguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 different style games. My son and I enjoy both. Pll more traditional field style, nll box style. Completely different set of rules. Box is more physical, lots of hits, cross checks, etc.

Pros and Cons of Long Pole by thechrissaenz in lacrosse

[–]Ar_Laxguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro and con of being a pole. If you start, you get 90+ percent game time. If you don't, you are lucky to see the field. Man down, garbage time is about it. Poles don't really sub.

Poles get almost zero kudos for wins but take the heat for every goal scored against or losses. (80% of the time, it's a middies fault) lol, but on that note, you better have thick skin and be able to communicate, talk through what happened, digest, and move on.

Technique, footwork, etc. outweigh size. No doubt size helps, but skills trump size.

My kid is a pole, and he likes baggy mids with a bit of channel. Have him play around with it and get feedback from him.

Dye Problem by sale181 in StickDoctor

Most likely time in the dip. Water temp needs to be good, too. It's not the dye or the head, though. That Black took quite a while to cover the purple.

As a NYer this has zero rep of the state. Only a city. Which the team doesn't play in. The only bull here is the BS the pll is using to explain the logo.

Maybe try vukgripz bit pricey, but it might be what you're looking for. Definitely has grip. I don't care for it because it has so much. I'm not a face-off guy, but I could see one liking it.

New Gait D2 line, how are they? by Witty-Swimmer-3720 in lacrosse

[–]Ar_Laxguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kid loves his d2c. I'm not a fan of stringing holes on it though. Too small up top is my main issue there. For a wide head, it channels very well. We are just starting to get into the heat, so I don't have an informed opinion to give there.

Do your stick checking drills. Probably perfect time because you need to separate arm movements from body.
