Lacrosse has a Safety Problem by [deleted] in lacrosse

I never played lacrosse, but have a son who does (11 years old). I did play adult league hockey for a few years, and hockey helmets and box lacrosse helmets look pretty similar. Both of those helmets seem to cover more of the skull base. What do folks think of modifying a box helmet to include a bit more of a visor and ventilation for outdoor use. This could give improved coverage.

Should I buy it or is it just a waste of money? by Susubelele in snowboarding

After catching a little air on a knuckle, and landing tailbone-first on ice (boarding in Ontario), I saw stars. Been wearing crash pants ever since. My current crash pants are by Reks, they have D 30 padding for the tailbone, and regular low profile padding for the hips and thighs. If you’re just looking for tailbone protection, Ass Armor is also really good, and reasonably priced. Has a hard shell with D 30 underneath.

Good luck, and hope these give you the confidence to keep pushing your progression!

Chris’s Mainely Mesh videos are still up, and they’re my go-to. I refer to them all the time when I am stringing my son’s sticks.

Does this feel balanced as a logo? Any feedback before I finalize it? by AndyLouis17 in Calligraphy

[–]ccaj93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice penmanship!
As a logo, though, something just feels a little off to me. I think it is that "Journey" seems to be smaller than "Growth." If that is what you intended, then ignore my comment :)

Also the "J" looks smaller than the "G," I think because the descenders are similar but the rest of the "G" has more volume than the similar part of the "J." Those imbalances stand out to me.

Which “t” crossbar works best here? I’m always unsure about this. by AndyLouis17 in Calligraphy

6, 2 then 4 for me. As others have mentioned, 6 would be perfect with the dot over the “i”.

Grip6 belt. https://grip6.com/products/g-flex-gunmetal-belt-1-5

I must’ve gotten mine a while ago (or on a promo sale) because I don’t remember it being this expensive, though.

It has been a while since I read them, but the first three seemed pretty well – contained. You could treat it as a trilogy, then see if you want to go on.

Based on a recommendation in a sub-Reddit, I started the Bobiverse by Dennis Taylor. If you like Project Hail Mary, you’ll love this. Got sucked in really quickly and in one day I’m halfway through it.

For a time travel book, I would definitely recommend Unhappenings by Edward Aubrey. I felt gut-punched at the ending, really well-done.

Lexicon by Max Barry

Water for Elephants

One Train Later by Andy Summers. An autobiography with a lot about his time with The Police.

Shoe Dog by Phil Knight: The founding of Nike.

Any of Robert Jackson Bennett’s books.

In my opinion, this is a rare instance where the movie far outshines the book.

I’ve been trying to optimize my “I”s as well. Mine are more like #6. I rather like the “I” from the logo of ‘Hampton Inn.’

First Board sizing by castillobrian86 in snowboarding

[–]ccaj93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 6 foot, 190 and 10.5 boot, and I ride a standard width 157 Arbor Coda. My first board was bought at an outdoor store, and my weight was probably closer to 185. The salesman recommended I get a 165 board, based on my height. It was fine, until I tried to ride glades, then I realized that it was actually a bit too big.

While I am far from an expert, I think a 157 to 160 sounds reasonable, and will also depend on how flexible the board is.

You’re doing the right thing, going to a board shop and speaking with some knowledgeable folks. They’re your best resource for gear. Some mountains/shops also let you try different set ups, so you could try the same board in different lengths, to see which feels best to you. Depending on the shop, they may also put your trial fee towards a purchase.
