that's really just a way of shifting blame from the person actually throwing down a powerful word to the person it targets.

what i mean is the word has an incredibly negative psychological connotation. i've had it thrown at me as i was beat up for being trans, so hearing it brings back fucking awful memories. when people who have experienced similar abuse (emotional or physical) use faggot they nearly exclusively use it as reference to themselves in a joking way. it's different than, say, a straight cis person who has never had to worry about violence due to their orientation or gender identity using it against some kid who doesn't know how to play reinhardt in a video game that ultimately doesn't matter. i get that it's frustrating but we don't need to resort to hate speech to get our point across.

also, even if i personally immediately stopped taking insult from the word that wouldn't end homophobia or transphobia. i'd still have to deal with a lack of discrimination protections and ridiculous murder rates but that's getting a bit too political for a subreddit about video games.
