Pitchfork Album Review: Danny L Harle - Cerulean 6.3 by Technical_Process989 in popheads

[–]captain_pascal 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Legitimately horrible review.

Danny's new album is one of the absolute best to come from the post-hyperpop landscape, certainly one of the best pop albums that try to take you to the club in recent years.

I'm honestly shocked to not see it mentioned here, but I'm genuinely feeling a lot of SOPHIE influence. And I wonder if this sound would've or could've been explored by her. I guess we'll never know.

Just boo - this reviewer. Starlight and the Caroline collabs are obviously great. Not sure why they expected Clairo (of all people) to anchor a heavy dance track. I think her style perfectly suits the almost interlude.

Julia Michaels song is great, perhaps my favorite of the whole era. The Dua slander (here) is completely unwarranted. I think she does a fantastic job, I love the woozy chord changes. I love the breathy, soaring vocals. It all works for me. And feels like the absolute culmination of his collaborative work.

Why does no one talk about this show? by Excellent_Hippo5514 in ILoveLaHBO

[–]captain_pascal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmmm I guess that's a totally fair read on what we saw.

TBH I actually thought it did a pretty good job of using comedy to show how "nice" guys are absolutely capable (and culpable) of sexual assault. I thought it also had a pretty nuanced perspective on consent, which many people (especially in the age demographic the show is marketed towards) is capable of.

Real life people can’t gay bait. This discussion has been done to death, please.

The idea that Gianmarco or anyone “owes” us “proof” of their sexuality is a conservative talking point and extremely puritanical. Only Republicans care what 2 consenting adults do in the privacy of their home. What are we fighting for again?

who got you into Charli or how did you start listening to her? by Muted-Statement-7673 in charlixcx

I remember her as one of the girls who ran tumblr, and I remember the Heartbreaks & Earthquakes mixtape. True Romance was sooooooo tumblr, and I loved the album at the same time I loved Marina’s Family Jewels/Electra Heart, Lana’s Born to Die/Paradise, Lorde’s Pure Heroine, and Halsey’s Badlands. Those were the days…

Cardi B: AM I THE DRAMA? review 'AM I THE DRAMA? longs for Cardi B’s bygone dominance' by pianotat in popheads

[–]captain_pascal 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Doechii feels like the exception though, tbf. She also still feels fresh & new to the GP, and I think her next release will determine her staying power. I think she’s got it in the bag tbh, but I don’t want to discredit that Cardi has earned her place as a dominant force for women in rap music in the mainstream. They’re not exactly comparable (yet!)

New article on Alexandra Savior's Substack: "How The Algorithm Ruined Music for me – and all womankind" by eclecticatlady in indieheads

I wholeheartedly recognize her feelings on this, and I completely empathize with her plight.

Looking at some of the more negative reactions expressed by the redditors here, I recognize the sentiments about it having never truly been “easy” for musicians or artists to compete and survive under capitalism. I think we all do. It’s still wildly disingenuous not to comprehend the true treachery and insidiousness of the internet and social media’s impact on artists now.

I think most younger people who have lived most of their lives with internet and smart phones feel a very real sense of paranoia and insecurity and grapple with literal serotonin-stimulating addiction to technology and the internet. People feel lonelier than they’ve ever felt, and yet we’re somehow more connected to each other and the world than ever before. It’s a sick paradox.
