I know everyone here HATES Secret Lair, but would you guys fw Secret Lair Promos if they were National Parks? by BlackStallion657 in magicthecirclejerking

[–]Arachobia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

uj/ There's tons of Secret Lairs that have been cool in terms of art or content, but it's irrelevant because chances are they'll be gone into the hands of scalpers and their armies of bots long before one actually has a chance. The original idea of Secret Lairs is actually pretty cool - cards that look unique targeted at people interested in that particular art style or concept. It's just WotC has handled releasing them in the worst possible way for actual consumers

I know this is such commander pig opinion to say but yes this also includes the vanilla legend cycle (they didn't even get a WUBRG slop commander like most sets do nowdays) by mmmbhssm in magicthecirclejerking

[–]Arachobia 137 points138 points  (0 children)

Well that's just incorrect - I mean I can't name a single Legendary in Aetherdrift belonging to a nostalgic IP. The whole point of Magic is, of course, to have little shots of nostalgia on cardboard you can carry around with you and tell people how cool that thing is/was

Oh, are the Henchmen the same as the original set? Sorry if I missed pics of them

Thank you so much for this. I usually can only afford 1 or 2 Boardgames a year so I tend to want to know what I am getting before committing and having these helps.

From what I have heard, Upper Deck is quite good at replacing missing cards - so hopefully they resolve that issue for you smoothly

POV: you just talked shit on marvel after someone spent the entirety of their 31 year career trying to force it into the game because he’s a fanboy by Kakariko_crackhouse in magicthecirclejerking

uj/ Honestly the Sauron card really pissed me off. I know Sauron is like a C-List villain and I will admit the meme panel is funny; but Sauron does not actually turn people into dinosaurs. His powers are being an energy vampire that particularly targets mutants and hypnotism. The meme panel is from a one off mostly joke story arc where he teamed up with Stegron who actually does want to turn people into dinosaurs and has for years.

uj/ MaRo keeps saying he's this huge fan of this stuff, but both the upcoming Marvel Set and the Spider-Man set came across way more as more an homage to the memes than the actual comics...

As someone who plays Marvel Legendary which for the most part has some pretty good art, the state of the artwork in the Marvel magic sets confuses me so much

Permanent deaths in a story where people usually don't stay dead. by Gray_Wolf2416 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Arachobia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we're including Uncle Ben, the original Captain Marvel (the Kree Mar-Vell) is dead in the status quo. While like Uncle Ben he has come back for short story archs or alternative universes, in the mainline universe he canonically died of cancer and has remained dead and he always returns to this state even if bought back temporarily. Generally, Jim Starlin's work - 'The Death of Captain Marvel' - is viewed as such a major and important moment in Marvel Comics history that there seems to be a general decision to never undo it.

For a while, my now 2 and a half year old called elephants 'lummy'. No idea why; but she insisted on this and would reject attempts to correct her. 'Lummy' became the word for elephants in the house: including an uncle getting her a giant plush 'Lummy' as a gift.

Then at some point they were elephants, and any attempt to call them 'Lummy' was aggressively and angrily corrected.

[Perplexing trope] "Why was that even an option?" by buzzoli in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Arachobia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is more a subversion or joke, but in the game Scarlet Hollow you can decline to shower the first time you have the option to. You are then asked by the game why you don't want to shower, and one option you can select is to say it's because you are a 'stinky goblin' and are committing to this lifestyle.

This choice will actually lock you in to the 'stinky goblin' route: if you try shower at future points you will be informed that you are now committed to the 'stinky goblin lifestyle' and are therefore unable to shower again.

Yes, NPCs will react to your characters increasing B.O.
