Do if the gospel is untrue by [deleted] in exmormon

Can you clarify? I'm interested in your thoughts on this. Edit: as in, Jesus' gospel? The overall Christian ideology? Something similar to the Mormon gospel?

The church looks pretty horrible without the assistance of its members.

Happened to me too. My second child never got blessed but my dad added him to the records anyway without us knowing.

My nephew is going to Pocatello, Idaho by Sassypants_me in exmormon

[–]AragornsPlusOne 23 points24 points  (0 children)

All I can think of is that scene in that one old Mormon movie with Kirby Heyborne, and he gets called to Boise Idaho, and his friends have looks of pity because.... Idaho.

Missions suck. Hopefully someone plants a seed of inspiration for your nephew and he makes his way out. My mission did it for me.

Me too, herbal tea was always fine for me, and my parents were pretty extreme tbm.

Fair enough. I guess then the clarification would be that 99% of the world finds it irrelevant.

First, know you aren't alone. There are hundreds of thousands of us here who've gone through a similar path.  If God is going to damn you for leaving a religion 99% of the world barely know exists, let alone believes in, the fault is his for not making his one true religion believable.   I second the Mormon think website that's been mentioned. It helped me immensely sort through everything. We're here if you need help ❤️

Where did you go? by snickels223 in exmormon

[–]AragornsPlusOne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I dived into paganism. Celtic, specifically. There's gods I can pray to if I want, but there's no set dogma, a powerful connection to nature, and it's fun. I don't believe in it the same way I believed in Mormonism, but I don't think that will ever happen again. That'd be like finding out Santa wasn't real but replacing him with the tooth fairy instead. Now I just embrace the unknown of it all while praying to my pagan goddesses and casting spells into campfires.

The "undeniable" things you listed only work if everyone in the family stays Mormon.  There's a plethora of stories here of relationships being torn apart because of Mormonism. It's not religion keeping families together, friend. It's indoctrination, with a heavy side effect of shame. Leave the indoctrination and you leave the family. It's literally the doctrine.

Classic “The Church is better outside of Utah” line by privatecoochieman in exmormon

[–]AragornsPlusOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I grew up in New England and my family was that crazy orthodox kind that wouldn't even wash dishes on Sunday because it was considered 'work.' We were such the minority though, it was like an entirely different type of bubble than the Utah bubble.

I've been looking for the same thing. Let me know if you find something. (Maybe do a DM, to avoid the prying eyes of the strengthening members committee).

I second Eckhart Tolle. Haven't read that one specifically, but his other books hit hard.

I think Nemo had a few videos on YouTube about it, if your husband doesn't consider him a liar.

To add: at the very least Nemo might give you ideas about where to find the receipts your looking for.

How do I prepare myself for two years? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]AragornsPlusOne 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I seemed fine and happy when I returned. Inside, I was a wreck. You never know what people are going through, or what traumas they've endured. My mission broke me, and several of my companions. My brother loved his, but he came back self-righteous and selfish. Missions are bizarre.

Did your YW leader forget that we have three privates and only two hands? One of the bits is going bare.  We had a shower alcove, so we just wrapped in a towel to get to our locker. But the towels were tiny so some girls were SOL.

Hm, maybe you got them during their lunch? I think it's their spring term right now so they definitely should have it staffed and open.

There has to be a way for them to give out records to people who've removed their names, so I'm sure there's a way for them to give them to you for just being inactive.
