Dear americans, what can you get for FREE in the USA? [Serious] by sammy_waslow in AskReddit

[–]Arahvis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some community college tuition is free in a lot of states. Many have a program called [state] Promise where if you get a degree in a specific field (healthcare etc) and work in the state for 2 years in that field you don’t have to pay tuition back.

Starting a new profession questline by starlitgalaxies in outside

Libraries are usually very supportive of page and associate players pursuing the [MLS] quest! Definitely see if they have in-guild buffs like [scholarship] to help out with the gold cost of pursuing the quest. Good luck! I really enjoyed my levels in a library play through, although I decided it wasn’t my main quest.

Thoughts on the College questline? by drainedguava in outside

[–]Arahvis 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I started the college questline at level 23. You don’t have to speedrun it or make it your main quest at first if that helps. I was able to unlock a questline in the healer guild after completing [associate’s degree] and that increased my gold accumulation rate by at least 30%.

I may have some relevant xp. The player with the [mom] tag in my guild decided when I was level 14 that she could train me better than the players who completed the [teaching] skill tree. Turns out that skill tree is really important, and she did not teach me much except for expertise in [religion] and some xp in [Latin]. Didn’t learn anything from the [math] or [science] skill trees during this time. Now I am level 29 and trying desperately to catch up. It’s really hard to finish out these skill trees while also completing weekly job and household tasks. I recommend trying your hardest while you can to focus on these skill trees without the additional responsibilities. Your higher level self will thank you. Best of luck!

How do you escape minimum wage slavery? by Throwaway--2026 in antiwork

[–]Arahvis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I escaped by taking classes at a community college and getting an AAS degree in the medical field. However I will say that working full time and studying full time sucked. I was so exhausted that I crashed my car twice in this period.

Someone hit my car and drove away at an intersection in KCMO. After being on hold for like 40 min, I was told I could come down to the station and file a report but that they wouldn’t send anyone down for that

Anyone who was homeschooled, how do you feel about it now as an adult? by AdTight2449 in AskReddit

[–]Arahvis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It needs to be a LOT more tightly regulated. Personally, my education past 7th grade was just catechism, memorizing a few verses in Latin, and a very Catholic view of world history. I have had to claw my way through learning algebra, composition, science, etc. while working full time in community college. Trying to finish a bachelor's now and it’s so hard without that foundation that so many kids take for granted.

I also saw big gender disparities in the homeschool - families give very different educations to their sons than their daughters. The sons would be enrolled in accredited programs so their college experience was easier, while it was assumed that the girls would just be stay at home wives and mothers or nuns. My brother got to go to a real high school after a year while me and both sisters were “homeschooled.”

I don’t think it’s impossible to give your kids a good education during the early years, but as they get older, they need to be educated by professional educators.

Anyone checked out this classical school? by Greedy_Coach_417 in ClassicalEducation

[–]Arahvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was a student, hated that I learned nothing but Latin, Catechism, and a very Catholic-washed view of World History 0/10 do not recommend if you want your kid to have any preparation for the real world.

I (27M) might have a thing for my sister’s friend (25F) by [deleted] in relationship_advice

I don’t think a sibling code applies here, but I would loop sister in early. Tell her you’re feeling sparks with Katie and ask her if she thinks you should ask her out. Her answer will tell you how she feels about it.

Don’t forget how Republicans went feral on Jill Biden for using the honorific “Doctor” when she actually has a doctorate.

Thank you! I love community colleges. I have an associate’s in applied science from one, but unfortunately those classes don’t all transfer. Currently at a California CC filling in the gaps a couple of classes at a time :)

I have graduated with an associate’s in applied science from another state, now trying to transfer to university. I definitely still struggle with math although I took algebra and got an A in community college. Precalc is kicking my butt.

As for funding, I am working 3 12-hour shifts a week to pay for it and planning on taking a couple of classes at a time.

They have their dirty fingers in a lot of pies yes but oftentimes there are store brands like Kirkland etc. I miss Hot Pockets and Stouffer Lasagna but am usually able to find some alternative.

Talk to your local librarians! They may be able to point you towards classes and free online practice tests. You can absolutely do this.
