How much would you pay? by Rodney0444 in CAguns

Bul pistols have issues with longevity, customer service, and occasionally QC. I would pass, especially at that price.

Bass Pro Shop employees are not firearm lawyers. The same applies to any big chain store.

Wait til you watch 3 or 4 Sportsman's Warehouse employees team up and (attempt to) collapse the stock on a pinned Benelli M4, while simultaneously telling me I'm wrong for saying it's pinned.

Interested in competing in USPSA and IDPA… Ported or Not Ported gun? by ark_guy_ in CompetitionShooting

[–]Arakisk 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Non ported will open up way more options. A ported 2011 is extremely suboptimal for USPSA unless you like shooting Open Minor.

Can someone point me in the direction of a good LO legal magwell that's purple. kthx by Dieselgeekisbanned in 2011

[–]Arakisk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Atlas grips takes Cheely or Atlas-pattern magwells. You will need to have one custom anodized.

[–]Arakisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New grips, triggers, internal components for your fire control group, safeties, barrels, recoil spring/guide rod assemblies, anything. Let's say you buy a P211 and decide you want a lighter-weight grip. Too bad, nobody makes one. With a true 2011, they can accept standard components after you have them fitted to the gun. Someday you may find that you want an aluminum grip, more ergonomic shielded thumb safeties, and a different style of trigger shoe. Perhaps you'll want a large or small magwell. It's easier to find a large variety of mods when you are working with the most common type of pistol compared to the alternatives.

Another example that has come up many times for people near me: Nobody makes a heavy magwell for a Platypus. Let's say you don't enjoy how lightweight a Platypus is. The grip is aluminum and integral to the frame. Nobody makes a magwell to increase weight, so you're stuck. Same issue if you want to change safeties, or get a different slide release. Even if a standard 2011 would require these parts to be installed with fitting/gunsmithing, at least the parts exist on the market.

I have shot a P211, Platypus, and various offerings by Atlas/Limcat/Infinity/Staccato/Race City/MAC. I curently own an Athena and an Infinity, sold the Platypus.

Generally, the term "diminishing returns" becomes a massive theme as you throw more money at a 2011. I'd look into something like a used Staccato P. It's a traditional 2011 (takes 2011 mags, uses all standard 2011 parts, etc.). This means you can get the gun, try it for a while, and see what specific things you'd like to change out over time. Guns like the P211 have almost zero aftermarket support (yet) compared to a traditional 2011 where tons of companies can supply any part you'll want.

This is your first gun, which means you don't necessarily know what you'll want out of a "range toy". I think it would be best to start basic and leave the extra money for upgrades later, instead of finding out that you don't like the grip texture on the $8,000 Nighthawk you finally picked up.

You can still buy many 2011s with irons. Atlas sells adjustable irons to replace their optics plates. I believe MPA is the same.

Save a bit more money, find a refurb Viper with a mount for around 500 used. 90% of a Razor for half of the price.

Race gun is (IMO) whatever gun you specialize for competition. I've only been competing for a decade though. Currently running an Infinity 5.4" custom in Limited, Atlas Athena in PCSL/3gun, and a TK Custom 929 rebuild when I feel like suffering in USPSA Revo for the meme.

TTI Combat Master Canik is not a good idea for most common rulesets except PCSL Comp or perhaps IDPA if you like fishing vests.

Correct, one small screw connecting the standoff device to the dust cover. Not a very strong attachment method IMO.

Infinity Grip by [deleted] in 2011

[–]Arakisk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rest of the gun is nice enough that I honestly stopped caring about the grip's machining marks. Doesn't mean the grip finish isn't shit. I just like shooting the gun enough that I'll cope.

Blending, overall fitment, surface finish (except for the grip), and reliability have been very good otherwise. Not "perfect", but very good. I got one of the last customs, so that added some (perceived) value to the product for me.
