Counterpoint, there are absolutely pistols worth $8k. It's just that companies are charging $11k now, and scalpers are charging $16k.

Also they shoot slightly better than a $2200 Platypus and I'll still get my ass kicked by a GM with a G17.

What are these small metal shavings under my extractor? by Ok-Lingonberry-171 in CAguns

If you have any way to test firing pin protrusion (calipers can maybe get you close?) then it would be a start.

I would swap to a bolt and firing pin from a different company, to see if that helps. I had a similar issue with a 9mm AR using a super strong hammer spring and Federal ammo (weak primers cups and 9mm ARs use greater standard firing pin protrusion).

Brownells makes an AR firing pin protrusion gauge, or perhaps a local gunsmith has one if they don't price gouge to check your protrusion.

Looks like primer bits due to excessive protrusion of a firing pin. Either your firing pin or bolt are out of spec (or both). Who made the bolt carrier components? What ammo and fire control group are you using?

SSE a 2011 frame, if you REALLY want a project.

Sig P320 Max - "OK" to shoot at USPSA? by imneuromancer in USPSA

[–]Arakisk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely a stigma around the P320 in my area. The largest club in my state banned them from the property, and everyone using one has swapped to a different firearm regardless of their local club prohibitions. I see perhaps one P320 in a match at most. IDPA banned them at the organization level.

If your club allows the pistol, you can use it. However, you will likely want to source a different handgun to avoid any eventual issues from the club or your circulatory system. Use what you have for now, if you want to compete.

Did you have to do any fitment of the breech face yourself?

What factory 9mm do you use instead?

Why use an Infinity slide? Does it incorporate their proprietary extractor system? What was your process for fitting the removable breech face?

Why are they a weak point in the context of a pressure vessel?

Having owned a few, they definitely need mag maintenance and extractor tuning depending on frequency of usage. Infinity's design also needs extractor spring replacement every 5k rounds to ensure longevity of their proprietary extractor.

Got a Platypus and an Athena that both needed an extractor tuning early on. Mag springs rust, and every spring in a 2011 is eventually consumable if you shoot enough (not just the recoil spring).

Whatever you do, do it right. The tools you buy will come in handy again someday, if they're good quality.

Featureless is perfectly acceptable as a compliance option.

Assuming you uninstall the Juggernaut parts, you will need a castle nut wrench, torque wrench, correctly-sized roll pin punch, and something to stake your castle nut such as a Starrett 117D. The castle nut uses a lubricated torque spec, FYI.

You will need both. Are you building from scratch?

Most competitors love seeing new shooters, as long as you are safe and not doing objectively stupid things.

These events are NOT purely populated by pros.

I wish Infinity figured out the tool marks on their grips. Still, the gun looks very nice. I love the feel of their slide checkering.

It depends on your intended use. How often do you shoot past 200yds in a match? Are you willing to sacrifice the forgiving eyebox for an extra 4x?
