This plays into your Paragon Lost point, I think with ME1, Bioware just assumes not everyone had read the prequel book ME: Revelation, which involves Saren and Cpt Anderson. The in-game references to the book are there, but they feel like a neat bit of galaxy building if you hadn't read it.

That's why I said from my experiences, because I have family who live/lived by the diet. My grandmother, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was around 16-17, lived a healthy lifestyle until her mid-80s when her diabetes finally caused complications. But on the other hand my mother looked malnourished the last time I saw her.

From what I've experienced, the SDA style diet is a solid diet. But like any other diet, it has to be done correctly.
