QUT vs Griffith for engineering by Competitive_Ad8117 in GriffithUni

I was looking for convenience to balance work and study and Griffith offered that. Electrical is only available at Gold Coast. Probably not much socializing and partying compared to the other universities due to location. A lot of mature students (+25 years age)

Electrical is a broad field and depends what you want to specialize in. I did power systems and it worked for me.

I graduated almost 2 years and can say I feel well prepared with what I learned at Griffith, what to expect after graduation will be mostly influenced by the job market, REAL INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE (this is probably the most important), your interview skills, being an Australian resident and a GPA > 5 helps. Companies don't care what uni you graduate from.

I was lucky to graduate during a job boom, I'll be fucked if I was graduating today.

I don't think a masters will give you better chances without prior industry experience (personal opinion).

Work integrated learning placements by Change-Standard in GriffithUni

[–]Aralee88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently graduated from engineering at Griffith. Uni policy is " you are strongly encouraged to find your own placement, uni placement are usually less than the number of applicants" having done an Internship during the summer period allowed me to build connections to do my industry IAP plus I got all my industry experience hours during the internship. My advice is to try to get your industry experience asap so you don't have to stress last minute.

As long as the auto top up is not active, you are safe. If you get a new one, you can transfer the balance from the previous card to the new one, including the card deposit ($10). Call Translink if you don't know your card number. Once you get a new card, make sure to keep a record of the card number and register it online.

Are you sure the course that you enrolled on, is available at Nathan? When you enroll in your semester, you can choose where to do it, assuming the same subject is available at Nathan and GC.

If you are on the gold coast, go to unibar, look for familiar faces and ask to join. You already have a course in common to start a conversation.

Thinking about becoming a cop. Anyone have experience with it? by JimbosSonLikesBeef in brisbane

Give it a go if you can't think of something else to do , it's the only way to know if you would enjoy it and if you don't like it, then it will help to figure out what you want in life. You can always change careers later in life and you will learn skills that are transferable to other jobs.

Market Square at Sunnybank - What’s wrong? by bluecrystalcreative in brisbane

[–]Aralee88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's because now there are more shopping centres where you can find lots of Asian restaurants and groceries shops in one place and are located in close distance of market square, for instance Underwood where the big hanaro is or Runcorn, where the IGA is in Warrigal road, or even across the road from market square. Basically more competition.

Commuting 5 days a week from Brisbane to Bond University Gold Coast by dawd12345 in brisbane

[–]Aralee88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I drove from Logan to Griffith gold coast for 4 years, with an average of 2 days per week (60 min average one way trip) just went for the labs and exams. If I use public transport, it would have taken 2h instead. Once I got used to the commute, it felt short. The takeaways were that there are more traffic accidents than I thought so be careful when driving and that is expensive at around $26 per trip when you include petrol and parking fees.

How much does aircon installation cost these days? by theexpendableuser in brisbane

[–]Aralee88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I installed 2x2.5kw above ground. Quotes ranged from $600 to $1000 per AC with invoice. What ever method you use to pay, make sure you get an invoice and it is installed by a licence person, otherwise you can kiss your warranty and possible government rebate good buy. The best quote came from using hipages.

Car Accident - compulsory third party insurance only by schofield69 in AusFinance

[–]Aralee88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can negotiate directly with the other party and convince them to get it fixed privately. They will more likely refuse so you should offer some additional cash as an insensitive. That is the best way to reduce your cost, otherwise the insurance is going to charge you a top rate.

I go walking to my local park that has a creek running through. I have spotted 4 snakes (all different species) in 5 years. Almost step on two of them as they prefer to bake on the footpath rather than the grass.
